TransAm, because I prefer the exterior styling, and the interior styling. Overall I think firebirds look better than Camaros.
Performance wise they are basically the same so that dosent matter much. I just think the firebirds look better. IMHO.

The cars are pretty much identical mechanically, except for the air intake systems on some years and versions, because the Firebird hood limits the space available for tha airbox. So if there is ever a performance difference, the Camaro will almost always come out on top. Also the Pontiac is heavier than the Chevrolet by 50-100 pounds if you compare similar models.

Bsically it comes down to styling. IMHO the Camaro looks more business-like and "to the point", while the Firebird looks a little more graceful. However one of the things that make the Firebird front end look like it does is the disappearing headlights which are notorious for failing, after which you have to leave them permanently up and the car looks like hammered elephant plop. Personally I prefer the Camaro but that's just a matter of taste.

I think both are great... if I didn't own one, I'd own the other. That being said, I prefer the Trans Am. IMO, the flying brick styling of the Camaro and the pre 90 Firebird can't hold a candle to the 91/92 Firebirds, especially the Formula. The interior is way nicer on the Firebirds. Pop up headlights fail very rarely, and when they do, there is a crank for each one so they can be turned manually. There is no excuse to drive around with them up because the motors are shot. Camaros and Firebirds weigh the same.... where would this magical 50 to 100 pounds come from? The pop up headlight assembly weights MAYBE 20 lbs, 10 lbs per side. One last comment... IROCs are cool, but with those damn decals telling you what kind of car it is from every angle, the big fake hood louvers, and those 70s disco tail lights, it is a bit of visual overkill.

Is this history or restoration? Nontech threads can be posted at many other boards. Personally I recommend http://www.nethirdgen.org This is a technical board, intended for technical discussion, please respect that and post accordingly.
