new convertible top prices

Time to put a new top on my 91rs. Got a quote today for $900 ( 600 top/ 300 labor). This seems high to me. Is there any place to get a good quality cloth top for less?

Actually that seems about right for a top quality job. You can get a nylon type top for less, or you can buy a good quality cloth top and install it yourself. But you can expect to pay close to a grand to get it done right, with the best materials.

I was quoted around $750-800 for the installation, about right for a job thats going to take any where from 6- 8 hours. Instead of spending that kind of money on something I know I can do myself, I opted to install the top myself, very easy to do as I get further into it (Helm manual made a huge difference). Just waiting for the weather to cooperate on a weekend so I can finish the install.

I put a new top on my 89 IROC-Z in Aug 99. I ordered it through www.gahhinc.com maufacturer of auto tops and deluxe interiors in North Hollywood, CA. Total bill was $316.50 including freight. It is a canvas top made of stayfast fabric and comes with a new plastic window. It looks as good today as it did when I put it on.

Would any of you guys who installed your own tops give a little input on the level of difficulty and what problems one might get into..?
I've been considering doing this myself as the only place I know around here does a sh!++y job! I had my rear window replaced there and they ruined my top...

Any inputs would be HIGHLY appreciated!!!
