92 production ##'s

I know this has been here before, but i've
seen total numbers for 92 as 226 but in other
places up to 508 units any one with any NEW
info on the last of the third gen cars
(oops I guess that would be for the GTA)
Thanks GTA.....

The GTA source says 226,and the Firebird Redbook says 508.The Redbook has alot of conflicting info, the GTA source is supposeadly directly from Pontiac,so thats the one I would believe.

Actually, 508 is direct from Jim at Pontiac Historical Services......which is supposed to be from Pontiac. I'm a little confused on this too. I don't know how Frankie got that number but since I own a 1992 GTA I'll take the low one

Actually, the figure 226 is straight from the North American GM confidential computer production records for 1992 GTAs..... which I have held in my hands. I had access to each year's GTA records for a single day a few years ago. No photocopies allowed..... just a pad and pencil.

Keep in mind that my numbers do not include cars built for sale in Canada.... they are only for cars destined for North American dealerships. The GTA was not available in 1992 for export sales. This distinction is stated openly on the Source Page.

Alex, I have been working with Jim Mattison & PHS for over a year now trying to get to the bottom of the production number dilemma. Jim told me that Peter Sessler's Firebird Red Book was notoriously unreliable; it is the first notation I came across with the 508 total listed for '92 GTA production. He also says that virtually every document from PMD he's ever seen has a different production total on it.....

We are still talking regularly about ways to get to the bottom of this, but nothing definite has come to fruition yet. Hopefully soon.....
