What is a rear cargo cover? Is it factory?

Hello

My rpo codes say i had a rear cargo cover. Whatever it is i no longer have it. What does thins think look like? Is it one of those roll up shades for the rear hatch? Or is it the hard well cover folding plate?
Thank u

Car: Yes

Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
It is the window shade thing.

If it's in your RPO codes, you probably have the mounts for it; 2 round plastic things that look like 2" diameter giant slot-head screws, right over the rear wheel housings.

Yes they were factory.

Yes it also is factory.

I forget what it's called, I guess I'll have to go look at my factory invoice, and get its "official" name. My car came with both things.

RPO D42 Rear Window Shade is the roll up curtain that is inserted into the black plastic round mounts and hooks onto the glass hatch. Early cars got a one made of vinyl while later cars had a cloth curtain. I'm not exactly sure when the change was but its around 1988 or 1989.

RPO B27 Rear Cargo Trim included carpet on the rear trunk interior side panels and the lockable storage well cover. Camaros with the BOSE stereo option also got the storage well cover but with intergrated speakers.

Yes I have D42 [had] thats what my RPo says
Is it something useful or is a peice of garbage that gets in your way?
Also would mine have been medium grey like my interior or are they all black or something?

Thanks

They're all black regardless of interior color. Early cars came with Vinyl, by the 90's they were canvas. Not sure when the switchover occured, probably between 87 & 88 if I had to guess.

Better? As far as functioning they both do exactly the same thing. Appearance would fall down to personal preference.

I mean like does the cloth fade alot worse than the leatherette or does the leatherette crack and cloth is the way to go?

Couldn't tell you how the vinyl ages, all my cars that have them have canvas, and yes they fade. Purple-ish brown or gray depending on how the light hits em. The only time you can really tell is if you pull it out further then it normally is extended in the closed position, which exposes the material that normally is shielded from UV.

The vinyl rear shades seem to hold up very well. I have never seen one faded and I have one that came from a car that spent most of its life in AZ before getting wrecked in WI.

The canvas ones are easy to dye though and will look good afterwords.
