84 Conv. Z28 numbers?

A friend of mine owns a 1984 Convertible Z28 and we were wondering how many of these were made? Any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know, it is impossible to know how many pre '87 verts were made, as all were aftermarket cars...none came from the factory (or should I say ASC ) as convertibles. Is it rare?? Absolutely. But it definitely is not factory.

ASC did not convert Camaros until 1986. Before that, a handful of companies performed the "surgery". If anyone would like an article on this, e-mail me.

If a handful of companies made the pre-'87 verts (as I suspected), how is it possible to quantify how many were made each year?? Did someone go around to every company and add them up?

Not being argumentative, just wondering where the info came from

I agree with Jason E, there were many companies doing different conversions over the years. With that, it would be almost impossible to know how many were produced for dealers or for the individual owner. Some of these companies did not work exclusively for companies, but would convert a persons own car for them.

Also add a little gas to the fire of your custom ride and do something like this. Plus you can label it #001

well technichally yes you could consider it rare because according to webster anything that is uncommon is something considered rare. and a pre 87 convertible is rare so go ahead and spend the $11,000+ to get it done. but i doubt you ever will

Post a picture of your car, so we can see the foundation before you get all the custom work done. That way we can see the before and after pictures.

my point is if chevy didnt make a covertible till 87 how can an 84 be considered rare and worth more money...I know 87 and up were done by a outside company but were documented and sold as new...84 vert would just be an aftermarket retro and seeing as none were officially made by gm then wouldnt be considered as a rare production vehicle, would it?

the company autoform is not in business anymore from what i know. i cant find anything on the internet about them but what im saying is these vehicles were bought by a person and gm gave them the oppurtunity to make it a vert using there own money, as far as i can tell all these vehicles that were made like mine were done at the same place.i have no written down proof of that but other owners of this vert said theres were done at the same place. and im not necessarily saying it is a rare production vehicle but just that in and of itself it is rare
