I have the same problem on my Trans Am,I crazy glued it and it looked okay.
Unfortunatly afterwards I had to replace the shifter bulb and now it won't stay glued.
You can get one at the wreckers for about $40 or so.

I've had the same problem with my console as well. It seems like the rubber part of the console at the sides near the shifter trim plate area weakens and eventually separates from the black plastic support underneath. I believe UV light and interior heat are the main factors that contribute to this problem.
What you need is an adhesive that will stick to both the rubber part and the plastic part of the console including the foam filler that's in the middle.
The glue that I first used to fix mine was a yellowish-colored (don't remember the name) CONTACT cement. However, the fix was temporary and only lasted a little while until it began to weaken again.
The ultimate fix, IMO, would be to use SEM Ure-Weld or other brand semi-flexible repair material. I didn't use it on my console yet, but I did use the stuff to re-attach some small metal retainers that came off the back of my door panel. Trust me, this stuff will stick almost anything to anything. Believe me, it's GOOD stuff.
This type of repair material is generally used to fix rips/tears/gouges in semi-flexible materials like spoilers, gfx and bumpers on late model cars. However, you CAN use it as a strong adhesive too.
The later consoles made in '90+ were "modified' slightly from the factory to address this problem. They included small little support "risers" molded in the plastic part under the rubber covering of the console near the shifter trim plate area. This modification seemed to somewhat "help" keep the rubber part of the console from separating away from the sides near the PRNDL trim plate area.
If your console is too wrecked to fix, you gonna have to try the junkyard unless you have lots of $$$ for a new one. The console-lid alone is typically around $175 at a dealer. Yikes!! Where I am, the whole console plus lid usually goes for around $100-$150 at the full-service yards and $40-$60 at the self-service lots. The full-service yard console parts are usually in alot better condition than the more "scruffed-up" examples I find at the U-pull it lots.
Gooduck!

If you pull the console out of the car you'll find the vinyl is pulling away at the top and at the bottom. The problem is that with age the vinyl shrinks. GM wasnt very successful at bonding the materials. Unfortunately once it starts to shrink you're outta luck, cause its nearly impossible to stretch it back. If you pull it up and glue it down it'll just pull up from the bottom.
This is one part you're just better off to buy from GM. They sell the console as an assembly with the armrest already attached.
part number is 10037846, I paid about $200 for mine. GMpartsdirect.com has em for 142.41.
