Rare Berlinetta?
Rare Berlinetta?
I was snooping at the junkyard yesterday and came upon what appeared to be an 84 Berlinetta. It had some wierd options though. It had a rear windown wiper, power cloth, driver's seat, power locks, but no power windows. It had an auto tranny and the center console clock, but didn't have the pod mounted radio. Is this a frankenstien creation, or a rare optioned car?

I would say that it's probably factory. My Olds 442 is optioned kinda weird also. It has manual seats and windows, but has pwr locks, tilt, cruise and Posi. How much more would it have cost the original buyer to get pwr windows and seats?

It sounds like a Berlinetta, but 1 problem....ALL '84 Berlies have the pod mounted radio. Is it possible this thing is a Berlie with a swapped console?? Sure...but this could also be an oddly optioned S/C too...

Sounds like you found an 82 - 83 Berlinetta. The entire Berlinetta line-up recieved the custom cloth interior and most were packed with options. The earlier berlinettas looked just like the 84's onthe outside,.... Chevrolet made most of the Berlinettas exterior changes in 85 (like the emblems, stripping, nose, ect,)
The Console clock was not an option on the 84 Berlinettas because the floor console "top" was not designed with the mounting holes for the clock..... it had the mounting holes for the mounting the rear-defroster button stamped into it instead.
Take a look at the window VIN tag - the tenth character should be a 'C' or 'D'. (82 or 83)
P.S. If it was one of my creations - it would be getting the P-Windows installed right away !

I saw a Berlinetta at my local junkyard. It had power windows, power locks, power hatch, rear compartment lid, luxury interior option, luxury cloth seats, carpeted floormats, console clock, rear defroster, 305, 700r4 tranny, and spoiler. I think that is pretty well optioned for a Berlinetta .Almost as good as a Z28! Too bad it got flooded by the creek it was parked next to!
