Berlinetta??

I just bought a 1986 Berlinetta. I noticed that the 1986 has a production run of less than 5,000. Will this make this a car to keep for investment potential, or, are the numbers low because it is so unliked?

I'd say enjoy your car for what it is. Unless its extremely low mileage and in perfect condition it probably wont be worth anything for a very long time.

Unfortunately, the Berli isn't very desireable. I would also say have fun with it. First recommendation for mods...a better carb and intake. Then get some gears.

I asked myself and others on the board when I initially came to the board, and I got mixed reviews. So I said, its my car and it will be the way I like it.

Also, you can go to www.3rdgen.org for a specific board for the berli.

Good Luck and have fun

1986 was the LAST year chevy produced the berlinetta. Hold on to it and keep it nice and rust free. It isn't the most desirable model for collectors, but is a collector car in it's own right. Berlinetta was considered the Caddy of Camaros has has special creature comfort options that flat out were not available on the other models of that year.

There were 4,479 berlinetta's bult in 86 - less than the 82 Indy Pace car (6,360). The Berlinetta was discontinued a few months into production that year and that is the reason for the low prodction #'s.

Chevrolet put a lot of $$ into some re-engineering work to the berlinetta electronics in 86 and I think they were surprised by the high price of keeping the berlinetta a "distinct" camaro. (The 1st digital design lasted from 84-85, the second design died with the car in 86)

The Berlinetta was the Only digital camaro ever produced and has MANY features that "regular" camaro owners have never even heard of... (like "Camaro Chick" said !)

A radio that automatically lowers the volume

The interior lighting is on a timer

headlights shut off if the ignition is off

Flash-to-pass high beams.....

And so on...... Remember folks, this was back in 84-86. Some people don't like Berlinettas - some do. The digital Berlinetta is FAST becomming a rare car & they are harder and harder to find each year. I know, I have owned the same Berlinetta since 92... ( & 14 of them total )

Good luck with your new Ride !

Keep it, keep it nice and keep it relatively stock. As was mentioned previously, this is the Caddy of Camaros. I always find it amusing when I see a modded Berlie...these things came with extra sound deadening, and "boulevard-ride" suspension. In other words, this thing was not meant to be a hot rod, especially when you consider the suspension. Berlies are great cruisers, but without TPI and with a soft suspension, they aren't meant for hot rodders (unless you want to mod the hell out of it!)

Keep it nice and original. At less then 5k produced it will be a collector car. There are plenty running around out there hopped up. Why turn a limited run car into the average camaro? Is my 83 L69 (3,233 produced) just a regular Z28? Nope there are very few out there especially now and same for your car.
