RPO vs VIN,

Hey guys, i did the RPO decoder and the VIN decoder here at third gen, and anyways, the VIN decoder said it was Trans Am, Formula, but the RPO decoder said it is GTA, which is wut my car is. So was the GTA just an option or was it another model? and another thing, aluminum drive shafts were standard equipment right?

The GTA was an option package on the Trans Am, so if your VIN says T/A and you have Y84 as an RPO, then your car is a GTA and yes JG1 was standard with the GTA package....

This is why you cannot get certain stats (like the number of L98 engines in GTAs)...as GM only kept stats on each individual option for a particular model. So, when GM quotes the number of L98 engines, it includes both Trans Ams and GTAs as GTAs was an option, not a separte model.

Yup. On later models at least. I can't tell you which particular option group (i.e. WS6) triggered the aluminum driveshaft, but all the late model GTAs that I've seen all had the aluminum drive shaft; regardless of the type of rear brakes. I say this, because my 1991 GTA has the aluminum rear drums AND the aluminum driveshaft.
