help me identify this engine
help me identify this engine
I have a 350 Chevrolet motor that I want to learn a bit more about. It has the bigger(8 inch, I believe) balancer and the bigger flywheel as well. I have heard that this indicates a factory hi po motor. Is that true? Also i was wondering if you guys could help identify the cylinder heads. On the ends of the casting by the accessory holes there are two triangles, the taller one on the outside. Im guessing that these are some sort of codes to identify the heads. Are these heads any good or am I just looking at crappy 882 heads? Thanks in advance.

Get casting numbers. Nothing else matters. I can't read them from here. Although, the casting mark you describe on the heads is some kind or other of smog stuff, probably not appropriate for anything that's supposed to put out above-average power.
Sounds like it might be a truck motor, in which case it could be a steel crank and/or 4-bolt mains. And that would also guarantee that it has the crappiest possible heads.
