Which Engine do i have??

When i bought my '87 SC the lady told me the engine was not the original engine, i have no rpo codes because the console was replaced with a console from an '84 berlinetta with a v6, i checked the rpo codes on here this is how i know they're different cause the VIN comes out as an '87 SC with an 8 cylinder. Is there anyway to check if my engine is an LG4 or one of the 305 4bbl H.O. engines?? Thanks for your help.

If its not the original engine, you'd need to get the block casting numbers to determine what it is. Chances are its a Lg4 or equivelant. Just about every Camaro I've ever seen that had the motor changed by a shop ended up with a GM goodwrench or another remanned 305 LG4 clone.

The thing that makes me wonder is that some of my friends have cars within the 190-200 horsepower range and i can beat them and they're good drivers, which makes me think its not an LG4, the only mods i have are a flowmaster catback.

All 1987 carb engines are LG4's, so you dont have the H.O. engine. However its possible you have a 350. The only way to know is to get the block casting numbers off the back of it by the distributor.
