smog pump
I'm sorry if this is in the wrong room. However, I have an 86 trans am that has a smog pump that is rusted out and doesn't work. I now need to have one operational and running to pass inspection. I was wondering what years will fit on my car? The engine is a factory 5.0 liter. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

If search was working, I'd tell you to use that.
Instead, I'll tell you to post this in the Tech/ General Engine forum to get good responses.

I purchased a new one from CarQuest. IIRC, it was only $30 or so.

85-87 would probably work, havent checked tho. I think the pulleys were similar for those years.

You can pick it up at an auto parts store, like JamesC and 82knightrider.Probably your best bet by getting a new one with a warranty since you have to pass smog inspection.Go to Auto Zone's website http://www.autozone.com or Advance/Parts America/O'Reilly's at http://www.partsamerica.com .Another search you can do is at used parts to find what years are similar.I use this one http://www.gaineyautoparts.com .You can search national or regional for parts and the bonus it uses the "Hollander Parts Interchange Manuals".

I was tryin to take off my smog pump today. I got the top torx head bolt off, but the other one was a wiatch, and I stripped it. So I think I'm gonna have to cut the back of the bracket where the threads are to get it off. Anyone run into this before?
