84 Trans Am L69?????

I found an 84 Trans Am and it has a letter G for the engine code in the VIN#. Is this for the L69 190hp motor. Car has a 5 speed in it. It also has an air induction system on the underside of the hoodscoop. Was that only an L69 item or available on other TAs. Anything else specific to the L69 cars that I should look for?
Thanks in advance for your help.

The functional hood scoop was available on LG4 T/A's too (both of mine have/had it).

That is the correct VIN code for the L69. If it really is one, it will have (or at least would have come with) 3.73 gears, an electric fan, and the catalytic converter with the 4-bolt flange at both ends, with the enormous oval Y-pipe. You should be able to get an immediate clue when you drive it too, if it runs anywhere near right; the butt dyno difference between the LG4 and L69 is quite noticeable.

Concerning L69 84 TA's: I was under the impression that all 84 TA's came standard with the L69 engine... is this true or false?

That would be completely false.

Here's an update on this particular car.

I mentioned it to a friend and he worked with a guy who owned it a couple of years ago. This guy removed the entire L69 motor, 5spd trans and 3.73 disc rear and put it into a 83 Z28 because the Z28's divetrain was beat to death. Actually he bought a crate motor for the Z28 and gave the L69 as a return core. So the Trans Am now has the 83 Z28 drivetrain in it. The Trans Am does need a complete restoration but without the original drivetrain, I will not be interested as it will be too expensive. Interior is pretty wasted also.

What a waste as this was a beautiful car in its day. White with blue interior, aero package and hi-tech wheels.

I may see if I can buy just the air cleaner and cowl induction system as its still there and appears complete. Any one know how much these are worth?

Only 83 and up. 1982 LG4 did not have a functional hood.

Also, all LU5's (Cross-Fire) had functional hoods, ECM driven.
