B2L vs L98... RPO code.
B2L vs L98... RPO code.
Wut is the difference in these two?
the B2L is PERFORMANCE PACKAGE & ENGINE PACKAGE V8 5.7LPFI
while the L98 code is just 5.7 LITER V8 TPI ENGINE
why does one say performance package while the other just have the engine?
(edit) OK, i was re-reading my post, and the B2L code says 5.7L PFI, is that different then TPI? like maybe TBI?

Someone else will be able to explain it better, but it's something like the L98 is the aluminum headed 350 TPI Corvette engine, and the B2L replaces the aluminum heads with iron ones.

To my understanding, the L98 code is the actual engine option code, whereas the B2L code identifies the complete "performance package" for the 5.7L TPI engine.
The use of the B2L engine package necessitated the use of several other mandatory options as well. I think they are covered by the B2L designation. Regardless, most all of the components are also listed separately on the SPI label.
For instance.... in 1988 the B2L option package mandated the use of and included 1) the 5.7L engine, 2) the MXO 4-speed AOD, 3) the K34 engine oil cooler, 4) WS6 suspension, 5) J65 four-wheel disc brakes, and 6) G80 limited slip differential.
The PFI designation stands for "Port Fuel Injection".... GM used that a lot.
If anybody can add anything, please do so.

I think you pretty well covered it all. I would be curious if it also included dual cats on certain years and aluminum driveshaft. In 1991, you did not necessarily get rear disk brakes.
As GM would say "GM reserves the right to change specifications and options without notice or warning"...

well, i guess that makes since, since my code is L98, and then i have the codes for all that stuff ya said comes with the B2L option, aluminum d\s, 4 wheel disk, oil cooler. etc.

For 1991:
"Req's. MXO 4-speed AOD, G80 limited slip diff, QLC P245/50ZR16 BSW tires and R6P Performance Enhancement Group (KC4 Engine Oil Cooler, N10 Dual Converter Exhaust, Front Disc-Rear Drum Brakes, and 3.23 rear axle ratio)."
And 1992 says:
"Req's. MXO 4-speed AOD, G80 limited slip diff, QLC P245/50ZR16 BSW tires and R6P Performance Enhancement Group (KC4 Engine Oil Cooler, N10 Dual Converter Exhaust, J65 Four Wheel Disc Brakes, and 3.23 rear axle ratio)."
There is no mention of the JG1 aluminum driveshaft as either a B2L 5.7L or GTA standard equipment item.
