It's an aftermarket modification. It's not quite real, although I realize you're saying it's not a Photoshop mock-up. These show up once in a while, maybe from police cars or something. The font looks like to me Letraset rub-on Helvetica, very different from the Futura Demi-Bold clone the factory used; compare it to the tach.

There were indeed very few that came with it... zero.

It's not factory. One of the speedo services made it. Again, look at the font. It's not factory.

That might even be the same individual gauge cluster that shows up on e-bay from time to time, looking for the next greater fool that thinks he's getting something really special. I believe that very same pic has even been posted here before.

Tim Burgess' friend has this exact same speedo in his 1986 IROC-Z.

Although I removed the link to the pic, I still have it. It is a closeup and it is identical to the speedo shown above. This rules out the idea that it is custom made.

I still have no idea which Camaros got this speedo. I do know that the '86 IROC-Z was in Europe at one time... Maybe this speedo was used on Camaros destined for Europe?

O'Reilly Chevrolet down in Tucson was selling them over the counter in the parts department back in the mid 80's. Back then the factory speedo was limited to 85 mph (in the US)due to federal law. This didn't stop the aftermarket from making replacments. I almost purchased one of them when my car was almost new, but they were very expensive and I decided to pass. I saw the box it came in, and while I don't remember the brand, I do remember that it was aftermarket, and not an AC Delco part. I later installed a factory 145 instead.
