Hello
I recently purchased a vinyl roll up shade. Visually it looks like new but it will not roll up by itself.
Is there a method of fixing this problem?

Very easy fix!I had the same problem with mine. With the cover installed in the car take the plastic end caps off the rod that goes through the end of the cover then rotate the cover(clockwise if on drivers side)one or two times then put the end caps back on the rod.You may have to take the rod out of the cover, just slides out,but I don't think I had to.Thats it!Mines been working great ever since.

Basically your just winding it up.Creating more tension on the spring inside. The plastic end pieces I'm talking about are about a 1/2 in diameter and fit into the ends of the rod(same rod that the plastic handle mounts to).On my cover those little plastic pieces are the only thing that keeps it from unrolling.

The roll up shades work similar to roll up window shades. On those you can rotate the one end, with the other end installed in the mount or secured somehow to keep it from turning. to add tension to the roll up spring.Fbody is explaining the other way to adjust spring tension. With the cover installed and fully rolled in you rotate the cover in the direction - toward front of car - to add tension to the roll up spring. Now this is trial and error.Go a small amount at a time to keep from overtightening and breaking the spring tensioner. Now as for replacing a broken spring you may be able to use a window shade of the same length.

Iron Duke I need to correct the direction to roll the cover. You rotate it toward the rear of the car.Still with the cover fully rolled in.This is how the spring is tension, when you roll it out.I apologize for the mistake in the previous post.

I didn't know what you meant at first because I don't have the rubber or plastic caps on my rod so I thought you meant the big plastic caps that the shade it self has. I wen't ahead and removed the rod so I wouldn't break the plastic caps, mounted it in the car, rolled it towards the rear of the car 6 times (probably could go more) and it WORKS Once again I love this site and the great people here.
