Interior DYE???
Interior DYE???
Does anyone have any advice about dying the interior plastic parts from light grey to black? I don't want to paint them as the paint can chip and look worse then what I had to begin with. I haven't the slightest clue on how to go about this. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
The interior paint that you can buy at most parts stores is crap. It chips, flakes, doesn't match factory colors, etc. The higher end dye/paint may work better, but after you get done buying the prep, the primer, and the dye/paint, you'd have been further ahead to buy panels in the color you want.
The best way to change the color of interior panels is to buy them from a junkyard. Unfortunately you have to get at them before the yard starts dismanteling the car, or they either wont be removable or they'll be destroyed by weather and people hunting for parts. If you're doing an entire interior swap I wouldn't suggest trying to piece together an interior, but rather find a car thats complete and get it all at once.
I've been thru a complete interior swap in the past and I'm in the middle of doing it again, and its a PITA. If one piece is missing or damaged, you can be sure it'll be the piece that you'll never be able to find.
My current opinion is that if you can stand the original color, you're better off to stick with it.
