Is it wrong to change bodies?
I have a 82 camaro that is just a sport coupe. I put rust free fenders on it, a z-28 hood, wheels, 305, and a three inch exhaust. The problem is the car was originally a v-6 car so there is nothing spectacular about it. It basically has no options. The rear quarters and floorpan by the rearseats have some rust through. I found a 82 trans am that is rust free, but is missing the doghouse, no engine, transmission, four different wheels, and has a missing title. It has posi rear end power windows,locks, T-tops, tilt, cruise, etc. and is rust free. The problem is it has a missing title. So I am wondering does anybody think I should switch everything over from my camaro onto the transam and just pass the trans am as the camaro. I mean vin plate, dash, doghouse, taillights. Has anyone ever done anything like this? I am going to hold off on the whole thing until I get some input from all of you. Thanks

In this case I actually think it would be easier to maintain/fix the camaro. I would think that it would be very difficult to swap all those items (also their are many minor differences that make for big headaches). If you want the T/A a title shouldnt be to terrible to obtain. I really dont think it would be worth all of the effort. Hope that helps...

You can do whatever you want. Its your car. Just don't try to pass it off as something its not, like saying that your SC is a Z-28. Anyway, I agree with TaDan. I would put all the power options from the TA onto the Camaro. You can cut the good quarters on and have them welded onto you car or do it yourself if you have a welder. between two beaters you could have a pretty nice car.

Don't play with the vin tags it could cause problems with the police.

I agree 100%...
However, I would take the good stuff off the Camaro, put it in the T/A and get a damn title for it...then you'll have something other than a V6 Camaro with a 305 in it!! (if that's what you indeed want
)
Good luck with whatever you decide!

Yeah, you'll probably be happier in the long run with the T/A since it is rust free... it will take a bit of work, but most of the time some rust is an indicator of more rust than you see. Titles aren't that hard or expensive to get...

It is a federal offense to switch VIN's. Think about it.... if it was legal to do this, one could take a wrecked "super rare" model and use its VIN on a clone. Here's an example: There were only NINE 1970 Hemi Challenger Convertibles produced. It is the rarest Challenger ever made. A guy finds one at a junk yard. He decides to take the VIN from it and use it for his dime-a-dozen 1970 6-banger Challenger convertible. Does he now own the rarest Challenger ever made? Think about it. Definitely illegal.

I'm gonna jump in and suggest a third approach... d) none of the above. Find something rust free with the options you want in the first place. Its alot easier to take out a loan and buy what you want and make payments. Its easier to find the money once a month to make payments then to scrounge the cash together to make changes to a car you already have. Also it'll be more accurate, reliable, and easier to service.
