Did GTA's come with 305 TBI engine and auto tranny?
Here are two examples that i came across and why i am asking.
I just went to a used car dealership and the guy had a 89 GTA for sale, I look inside and it has the GTA door panels (i love those), fully optioned car, the overhead console ect.. it also has the GTA emblems on it. I opened the hood and sitting there was a 305 tbi auto... It wasnt rusted or anything but the paint was really really fading, most likly original paint. The interior needed to be redone and has seat covers on. it needed lots of little things but he was asking $995 for it. I want to get him down on his price but i want to make sure it is a GTA first.
I am at my friends and his buddy comes over with his car. It was an 87, it has the digital dash, "e.t" GTA seats, split rear seats rubber cracking wing everything to make it a GTA except the emblems and the steering wheel. I asked him what was under the hood and he showed me a 305TBI auto as well, he told me he ran the Vin and it came up as a gta, the body on his car was shot, peiced together essencially so it doesnt have the emblems on it. it also has the TA grid taillights.

 

What is the V.I.N No.?

 

I didnt grab it and i meant too. I looked on our sites "tech data" section and it doesnt show that they had tbi in gtas, but it is sort of weird that this is the second car that has it...

That car is a regular Trans Am.

 

Thanks, i dont think i will be buying the car now. But i do have a question about my friends car. He isnt a member of this site... yet. So ill find some info out for him. He has paperwork saying that the car had its engine done about 40K miles ago. Did the regular trans ams have options such as the digital dash? the electric lumbar seats? the "gta" door panels? and the electric heat/ ac controls? I thought those were exclusive to the GTAs but unless the person who did the engine put TBI in it must not have been. I think if there were badges on there no one would be able to tell the difference. I will be sure not to let him do that lol.

 

Yes. They were not GTA exclusive.

 

A quick look at the RPO list in the console will answer your question. If it isn't there, do the front fenders have extractors on the side?
