Personally there is nothing in Carfax thats a secret that I can see. I have several reports, its all about the car there is no information on the previous owners except where it was located... Never seen anything with a damage report or anything else... matter of factly I pulled an ECM from a junkyard a long time ago, the Camaro was burned pretty bad in the engine bay, and I checked Carfax on that vin to see what it would come back with, I wrote the VIN on the ECM... long story short it was not reported... the yard is GONE now and there is no record of the car being crushed, Burned nothing...

THe Block in one of my cars is from an 87 Trans Am or Formula, and no matter what combination of VIN numbers I try and use does it even come back.... I know I have good numbers but it does not matter its not in the registry.

Personally I think CARFAX is a joke, BUT its interesting nonetheless to see the report, and considering how highly some people regard it...

I ran my old 87 formula 350 on carfax when I got it. The car had 46K on the clock but had an "r" title (reconstructed) Carfax told me that hte car was totalled in late 88 and put back on the road in 90. It all depends on the state and how the car was reported to the state. That junkyard probably never turned the title in to the state, it's probably still in the name of the last person that owned it.

well, i personnally dont want some guy on the internet to know where i live, what my vin is, what my plates are etc. etc. just one of those things. i never hand out personal info online, well, i try not to.

Just so you know, car fax has NO personal information on it! No names, no addresses, no plate #s, ect, ect. The only thing you need is the VIN #. And anybody can just walk up to your car and look in the lower corner of your windshield to get that, heck, they can see your plates without getting close.

* Collision Repair Facility
A collision repair facility specializes in repairing vehicle damage caused by accidents and other incidents. A vehicle inspection completed by your dealer or a professional inspector is recommended.
* First Owner
When the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership.
* Inspections
Many states or counties require annual or biennial emissions and/or safety inspections. Odometer readings are collected at the time of the inspection.
* Mileage Inconsistency
If a more recent odometer reading is less than an older reading but CARFAX is uncertain whether the discrepancy is a rollback or a clerical error, then CARFAX calls it a "Mileage Inconsistency". In this case, you should verify the mileage with your dealer or a qualified mechanic.
* New Owner Reported
When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles.
* Not Actual Mileage Title
When the seller certifies, under the Truth-in-Mileage Act, that the odometer reading does not reflect the vehicle's actual mileage. This may occur because the odometer was tampered with, broken, or replaced.
* Ownership History
CARFAX defines an owner as an individual or business that possesses and uses a vehicle. Not all title transactions represent changes in ownership. To provide estimated number of owners, CARFAX proprietary technology analyzes all the events in a vehicle history. Estimated ownership is available for vehicles manufactured after 1994 and titled solely in the US including Puerto Rico. Dealers sometimes opt to take ownership of a vehicle and are required to in the following states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma and South Dakota. * Title Issued

Carfax is a joke, something to get you to pay money for your ignorance. I purchased my car with a Carfax report only to discover that my car was infact wrecked, repaired, and went unreported to anyone.

im not too surprised by that, alot of people will hit something and never report it to anyone. i know my car has been wrecked and rebuilt, dont need carfax to tell me that!
