Hey folks.
A little story for ya, I've been lookin at this 85' Camaro for about a week now, so yesterday I bought it for 800 bucks. Body has the usual dings but nothing major and no rust. Someone before the guy I bought it from replaced the engine /trans with a 350/350 combo. I runs ok, could use some tlc and thats about it.
So I've been lookin at it and it seems it was a 5spd car. Clutch pedal bracket, master cylinder are still in the car. Anyways I just wondered if theres a way to decode the vin# to tell me more about this car

Thanx in advance

Car: 1985 Camaro Z/28
Engine: L69
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: One-Wheel-WOnder 3.08
Use the VIN decoder on this website.

EDIT: Nevermind, we don't have it anymore. Just post it on here and I'm sure we'll be able to break it down.

1- Country of origin 1=USA
G- Manufacturer 1=GM
1- Division 1=Chevy
F- Series F=Fbody
P- Model type P=Sport coupe
87- Carline, Camaro
5- engine (probably is an 'S' not a '5') S=v6 engine
9- check digit (there is a code that is derived from values given to each digit of the VIN. Add those and then divide by a denominator, the product will be this number).
F- model year F=1985
L- production plant- L= Van Nuys, Calif
445056- sequence number: sure that isn't a 1 instead of a 4? Yours is #445,056 off the line for MY 1985.

Cool thankx, your right the 8th # is an "S" can't read my own writing heh. The last six are 445056 though. I was wondering about this because the mouldings on the outside say "Z28" all over and "Tuned Port Injection".
The wheels are aluminium 16's and say "Iroc" and there is a red/orange "IROC" thing on the dash on the passenger side. seems I bought someone elses hack job heh. Runs like a striped ape though. Oh and no T-Tops.

Thanx for the info.

yeah an S is the LB8 173ci 100hp V6. Cross reference with the SPID and look for LB8 (the RPO sticker inside the console, if it is still there).

More than likely someone made an IROC clone.

I remember why your sequence starts with a 4-- you have a Van Nuys car. The Norwood vehicles started with the 1, Van Nuys with a 4. Camaros were built at 2 plants from the 67 MY thru the 87 MY. Van Nuys, California and Norwood, Ohio.

Thanks Kurt, I had tried one of the online VIN Decoders. Those things aren't exactly too reliable.
