85 IROC ordered without air conditioning??
85 IROC ordered without air conditioning??
Just curious on what you all might think about this. I have a line on a 1985 IROC, all original and a nice car, but which came from the factory without air conditioning. It does have T-tops, just no air. I would assume that this was an option delete by the original buyer. Would this have been done for some reason other than to save some dollars? I can't believe it would have meant much of anything in terms of horsepower difference, and the car also is carbed as opposed to fuel injection. Would this have been done as some sort of performance package, or done because of it? I don't have the RPO codes for the car just yet... And finally, how bad of a hit on value to the car would most see this as? Thoughts anyone??

Probably done just because.
In Canada I've seen more thirdgens without air conditioning than I have with.

Going without A/C and with carb instead of TPI would have made the car considerably cheaper when it was new. A young buyer without a lot of money might not have been able to afford a better optioned car. A smart dealer would order in some cheaper equipped cars to snag this type of buyer.

This one is not anything rare, at least not that I consider. Its supposedly a very nice, all original 1985 IROC, LG4 V8 engine (the base, model, carbed, 155 horse, oh gee wow), with t-tops, all original and not screwed with at all, 42,000 miles, and asking price right off the bat is $8000. Now if it had AC and then something other than an engine so basic, I'd be getting pretty excited, but personally it doesn't do much for me. I think it was just ordered as the cheapest IROC that the buyer could get, or that the dealer could order in. Oh well, guess I'll have to keep searching for the "right" stock third gen...
Those were the days you could special order or delete any option you wanted on a car. I would order a new new car with the equipment I wanted and not what soneone thought you needed. Not like the present time where everything is a expensive package.

85 IROC, carburator, no AC.
L69 engine code car? 5 speed? Depending on codes maybe ni impact on value without AC.
If LG4, 70% normal value.
L69, maybe prior owner was into SCCA or similar.
I wanted that exact combo in 1985-1986!
Less weight etc for track & stoplight🚦heroics.
Per several dealers, they ordered all of their cars with AC. They said it was very hard to sell a new car without AC in North Carolina.
With $1,500 deposit (no refund) and at full MSRP, they were willing to order one without AC, so zero leverage negotiating. Delivery timeframe? Whenever it showed up, at least 12 weeks but up to 12 months
