84 berlinetta project

i got the car,i bought it off of my buddy.the guy before us gutted the interior(but its still all there). now for the good! its got a 327! so that increases my determination to get her done.this is my 3rd thirdgen(lol) and its in the most worse condition.i owned a 85 camaro.and i currently owna 92 rs (lo3 auto).i got some questions about the 84 tho.some berlinetta owners can help me out with this 1. its got a digital dash that works, the question is,are these accurate as they are said to be? also,i have to do a steering column swap..and what kind of tranny came in these cars? its got over drive but i dont think its a 700.maybe a 200-4r.did those come as standard equipment.i just plan on restoring it.the tranny dont go into park and im not positive how to adjust that yet.but hell, thats a reason i got it.to learn stuff.lol.help me out guys

what transmission.
how to change a steering column
info on digital dash
i can only cut wires so fast.lol

I know that the 200 wasnt made in that year....there was only 700r4's from what I believe since i have an 84 (but a sport coupe). If the digital dash doesnt work...prepare to spend a lot of money. I was looking into gettin an 84 berlinetta...all the electronics ends up costing a lot of money...

O read that the dash works...from what I remember...the digital dash didnt look to accurate to me when I drove one for a test drive...does all of the other buttons work? I mean have you tried EVERY button?

Car: I've had 4 thrid gens!!
Engine: Someday again I will have another!!
I know a local pick it yourself that has a complete (83-84?) interior/dash. The one with the self standing radio. I think all it was missing was the vents. The dash pad was even in excellent shape. This would probably be a good item to ****** up and offer to someone on this board. Are they pretty hard to find? -Nick.

I believe Sickcuban is right on the TH200 not being offered in '84.In the Camaro it was the 200C,and not the 200-R4 or 4R? used in the Monte Carlo GN etc.,which was a 3 speed auto.So if you have a 4 speed auto you have a 700R4.The standard trans in '84 in the Berlinetta was the 5 speed manual(the 4 speed manual's last year but only with the 2.5 I4).
If the shift likage doesn't physically go into park you have to adjust the shifter linkage.Best thing to do is at least get a sevice manual(Hayne's or Chilton's - they both have good points). But since you have the berlinetta you should also look for a '84 Camaro Factory service manual(I did this for my '83 Z28 because she has the LU5 CFI motor and Hayne's/Chilton's just briefly touch on it).
Just for curiosity is the 8th digit in the VIN a "H" or a "1"?The reason I ask is just wondering if she originally had a V8 or a V6.

What's so great about a 327? If the car is in that bad of shape that you make it sound like... and you already have another nice 3rd gen... part this one out and make some cash!

well,if its not as bad as i think and itll be cheap to fix things(most i can do myself) payed 300 for it.fix it,sell it for 1500.i think thta would be makin some money.all of the buttons work.yes.....but we had the motor at 5500 and it started to cut out.(the dash did) so i dont know whas up with that.

engine is ok.so no money there.
radiator-200.
steering column-65
tranny adjustmen,free
interior over haul.100,if that.
so theres 365 plus some other stuff
im not putting more then 500 into it.so including the price of the car itll be 800.not bad.i don think.

Ahh ok. So yah, put a little cash into it and sell it... but $1500 is a little steep unless the interior and exterior look nice.

i personally like the grnd effects.but there arent any on this car.

i can get some pretty good deals on stuff around here.im prolly gonna take the stock seats out of my 92 put em in the 84.put racing seats in the 92.the interior in the 92 is really nice except the back seat is stained and the infamous wear spot on the drivers seat.the stain will come out,and i stitched up the tear, and its got seat covers.maybe 4th gen leather for the 92? what do you think about that?

Sure, if you can find them under a grand. Last time I looked at black leather 4th gen seats, that was what they were selling for.
