I have an '85 Trans Am, and I am wondering if there is any way to find out just how many are left like it. It is a code "F", with a Recaro option interior, the anniversary look rims, 4 wheel disc brakes, the performance suspension, in black with gold rims, with tan/beige interior. Except for the Flowie muffler, and a decent chip, it's pretty much factory, and could use restoration work at almost 22. Unfortunately, automatic, yuck!!!! But hey what can you do, it burns up tires if you let it...

pretty rare. I found an 85 just like you described--in Canada--except it has the auto/Lg4 combo! yucky

I looked at an 85 Silver, hard top, gray/charcoal Striped interior, 305 TPI (F) Auto... They made alot of them, 16,896 to be exact with the TPI. Only the LG4 sold more at 20,792.... The HO cars however there were only 1,665... As for the RECARO option there are fewer of those... I would suspect a thousand or so, but I do not have the breakdown on production for those cars....
All of the TPI cars were Automatic until 1987, there were 4702 LG4 cars with the manual in 1985, and all 1665 HO cars were also Manual. The manual was probably manditory with the HO due to fuel economy, and the TPI was only Automatic because the Horse power was higher than what Borg & WArner would warrenty.
If you wanted to check through CARFAX, what you can do is write a program to decipher the Check digit, have a list, and plug the numbers in one at a time.

A first year TPI T/A with the Recaro seat option would be an uncommon now.In '85 you were limited to the auto with the LB9.If you wanted a manual you had to go with the LG4 or even more uncommon, for '85 in a T/A,L69.
It sounds like you have a very nice T/A that I'm for one would like to see pictures of if you could post.

Since I do not know the Total Recaro Production ( I suspect around 1000) although IIRC someone has stated around 600... Nonetheless I gave him the best information available to me
. TOTAL number of cars with TPI, all have the Auto, etc... thats all there is folks...John

There are still a few out there in various stages of appearance.
If the west coast editor of Hemmings Muscle Car likes mine, you will see it in one of the issues, he is actually going to look at it late June and shoot it.
I used to have another 85.........
I sold my L69 for 1700 and now the guy wants twice that amount, pretty much copied my old add too.

I have to check the NADA value he quotes though.
It is a rare car, Im gonna go ahead and say that so get the flame throwers out. 85 L69 T/A with WS6 and G92

Sorry I haven't been around for a while, but in spite of that, many thanks for the replies. I always suspected she was pretty rare, options and all. I got a vanity plate that says PHOINIX a couple years ago. That would be a VERY old Greek way to spell it. I figured something like that fit rather well. Extra cash is a bit hard to come by thanks to the obscenely rich driving up the cost of living astronomically out here on Long Island, but I'm going to start having the interior done in the next year or so. I don't know yet how close I will be able to come to the original fabric, but I'm gonna try...
