GTA VIN Number
Hi gang,
Question for someone. Im going to go look at a 91 GTA on Saturday. The guy gave me VIN# 1G2FW239ML221481. I thought on the eighth digit a 8 was a 5.7 & a F was a 5.0. Anyone know what the 9 is?

Check digit?
That VIN is one digit short of a correct VIN. Its 16 digits, the VIN is supposed to have 17.
Based on my information and assuming the series is right (221481), the missing digit is the engine code and that is an F, or 305 TPI. That makes the VIN complete and makes the check digit 9.

Thanks for your imput guys. Ill find out tommorrow. Im hoping its the 5.7. The 5.0 would be a disapointment.

make sure it has the rpo sheet, and that its says Y84 thats the only way to prove it's really a GTA
