My Vin Decode Software
I wrote a small app called VinTool that will decode VINs for 1982-1992 Firebirds and Camaros. Type or paste the VIN and press compute and it’ll decode it for you. It will also verify the check digit to make sure the VIN is valid.
It can also be used to calculate the correct check digit by replacing the check digit with an underscore
For example entering 1G2AW877_DN200000 and pressing compute will return 1G2AW877XDN200000, but keep in mind just because the VIN is valid doesn’t mean the car actually existed.
There are a few small issues that I know about but if you post any problems I’ll try to help, however I make no promises, this is just a hobby. It’s written in Microsoft VB6 so it will only work with computers running Windows.
To install, download and unzip.
Double click VinTool.msi and follow the wizard.
It will place a shortcut on your desktop.
