86 iroc-Z?

I purchased this car on ebay will I was in training for the army and I had my parents pick it up for me and when I bought the car the person said it was an iroc z but its been repainted and has no decals of any type on it. It has a 305 tpi, 700r4 and t-tops. Can anyone tell me how to figure out if this is an iroc z or not? I was told iroc z only had a 350 in them but i also heard that when it had t tops it was usually a 305 but I dunno. I am new to the camaro world.

A search will provide a ton of info on the subject. I'd check for the steering box brace (aka the Wonderbar), the door placard should indicate 16" wheels, there should be an IROC-Z emblem in the cabin on the pass side. RPO should have B4Z. Check the vin; an H or G (eighth digit, IIRC) would be the 305 / 305 HO. Most reference books claim that the 350 wasn't introduced until 87.

B4Z in the RPO tag is the best way to find out. This would be indisputable proof that it's an IROC. The 16" wheel tag on the door is also good enough, because only the IROC had 16" wheels until 1991.

Things like dash plaques, wonderbar, and other IROC parts, while usually a good way to check, can be added later, so while it's unlikely that somebody would go to those extents to fake an IROC, they don't offer "proof" the same way the RPO tag does. Engine info is useless because the IROC and the Z28 had the exact same engine options.

On iroczone.com there's an IROC-Z "spotter's guide" in the tech section that would probably be very helpful to you.
