Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach
Just an FYI for those interested. Barrett-Jackson is going on in Palm Beach, FL and they have a few third gens. There is another 82 Camaro Pace Car, a 92 1LE Heritage Edition 5sp with no miles, a 91 Camaro RS that's a joke, an 84 Trans Am with low miles and an 86 Firebird convertible with aftermarket hood. I'll continue watching to see the results of these cars. Palm Beach usually has more realistic pricing.

I can't get on the BJ website right now. It's not responding, so no pics yet. I heard the 82 Pace car sold for $18700. That's $2200 more than the 25k mile car sold for in Scottsdale. Like I said during the Scottsdale auction, I can see stupid money being spent at this auction for 60s muscle, but for an 80s car? I guess the low mile cars from the 80s are starting to increase. A mid 80s Monte Carlo SS recently sold at another auction house in the mid teens also.

Ever since Barret Jackson has become televised, People are hanging on to cars that otherwise would have been affordable and selling them at Jackson for some obsene amount. And the people who had the clapped out "restoration specials" NOW SELL THEM at some massive mark up thinking, "hey; I saw one just like mine on barret, it has to worth some money!!!" Not to vent, but that show is the root of all evil for driving enthusiasts IMHO. Supreme Member

I saw that car from the rear and thought that it was a vette so I had no interest in walking over to it. Wierd.... All of the cars look so much better in person though. Anyone else go to the auction?

The Barrett Jackson 78 mile 1LE is still at the dealership I work at. They want $59,500 for it....pretty crazy. They say it's a "police interceptor" and of coarse...they won't listen to me....

The 92 1LE car sold for $29700. Wow!!!
As for the value of cars increasing to be out of reach of the enthusiast, I say, "So". I don't understand. The American dream has gotten too far out of reach for the average person also, but people aren't complaining as much about real estate. While there are some out there that will try to sell their heap for top dollar, the bargains are still available. These top dollar sales seem to be reserved for the low mile cars that many on here wouldn't be buying anyway. As enthusiasts, most of the cars on here are higher mile cars and beaters turned cruisers. Those cars are still plentiful.
Personally, I don't mind seeing the price go up. It doesn't affect me at all. The magazines are already mentioning that auction sales are lower this year than last year. BJ had a car sell last year for more than it did this year, so I believe the days of stupid money could be short lived.

Re: Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach
there were nicer cars last year and 30k for that startrek car isn't bad, it's ugly but had to have cost at least that to be built so at least the person got close to getting their moneys worth which isn't a bad thing for the hobby.
it's the dealer mentioned above who paid 30k for the 1-le and wants 60k or the$500,000 original 69 mustangs or the $200,000 05 mustangs that are rediculous when you can buy one on the showroom for 30k and do the same thing for 30k more.
let the prices go up, it will never really affect the honest person in the hobby and those that hold on to a 170k rs thinking one day they'll get 50k for it let them..
if anything the auction gives those of us who do put alot of work into a car a chance at possibly getting even a fraction out of them down the road.
to the guy at BJ that sells his 66 low mileage original vette for 100k... good for him. hope it was worth the 30 years of staring as i'm sure his son will enjoy the 100k when he passes away. probably just spend it on an import anyhow.
so is life, enjoy your cars and don't worry about it. no one should ever think you should be able to buy a low mileage 55 chevy in great shape for under 30k. you can't get a comparable 07 chevy for that.
