Calling out all U third gen's "EINSTEINS"

i THOUGHT THAT MIGHT GET SOME ATTENTION!!

I have a 1989 iroc/z with a L98/350, t-tops, 4 wheel discs, loaded.. I had read that a l98 in this year was rare with t-tops. The color is Dark red mettalic (flame red) with only 75,000 miles on it.

3 questions?

1. Is it rare with this combonination?

2.What's it worth?

3. It's being completey restored, should I keep the original "dark red metallic (flame red") or would it be o.k.to change the outside color??

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Re: Calling out all U third gen's "EINSTEINS"

The 350/ttop rare question comes up a lot and really, it's not a rare combination. In some cases the 350 couldn't be combined with ttops, but there are quite a few cars that had both from the factory.

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Unfortunately, all of these cars are too old to be financed, which narrows the market. If you found someone looking for that exact car it might be worth $5-6,000, but you could probably find the same car selling for as little as $3,000.

If you change the exterior color, or anything else that takes a lot of work to switch back, it's about the same as taking an axe to any collector value.

change the color it's no longer original... if you repaint it's no longer original and considered restored. these cars had terrible paint from the factory so a good repaint is a blessing to someone that can spot it but if you aren't shelling out and doing it right then trying to make money off the car is pointless.

if you are restoring the car to make money on it you have several years before you'll ever see it and the mileage you have is way to high to consider such a thing. your combination is rare in the fact that there aren't many that have survived so if yours is in good shape you should appreciate that but it isn't like a diamond in a rough.

the t-top/350 debate is only an issue with 91-92 z28's. with that mileage i'd say enjoy it, paint it what you like.

when i started building my first 91 i was told to leave it alone, repaint the same color... l98 350's in the 91 92 years is holding true today and sometimes i regret doing what i've done with the car but it's all part of the hobby. i build the cars for me, not someone 30 years from now..
