Planning a summer project...
Hello everyone! First I'd like to say your site is great and I have already learned quite a bit through browsing. Anyway, I have been shopping since last year for a good project car to work on in the upcoming summer and I have finally settled on a 82-92 Camaro. I have a budget of about 3,000 and am hoping to spend no more than 2,000 on the car itself and use the rest for the restoration/ugrgading process. I would like to get a Camaro with a 350 and then swap out the auto tranny for a 5 speed but I'm not totally opposed to a 305. Then again I do not know enough about the two engines yet to make an educated decision. My one major goal is to achieve a 0-60 time of around 5.5-6 seconds. Not ridicliously fast but definately fast enough for a 17 year old. I believe I can accomplish this task on my budget, if you don't think it can be done, please tell me about it! Thanks for reading, Ryan

welcome to the boards first of all this place rules you can easily find a nice thirdgen for under 2000 grand, and with an extra 1000 you could do headers, gears, and exhaust well may need a little more for all 3 but that get you movin pretty fast. Unless you plan on swapping enigines I would stay away from the lo3, and other lower model engines, and stick with the tpi enigne's

If you buy a thirdgen for $2,000, and then spend another $1,000 on mods and repairs, you'll still have a pretty beat down car. On the other hand, you can spend $3,000 for the car and have a much better car, right from the get go that you can upgrade as funds are available.
Also, it's easier and cheaper to convert a 305/5spd to a 350/5spd, then a 350/auto to 350/5spd.
