Re: Iroc center caps

The 85-87 cars had the black inserts, while the 88-90 cars had the silver. If you need the black ones with gold type, let me know. I have a set that are brand new from GM that I want to get rid of.

I have an 86 IROC that came new with silver on silver center caps. But, my wheels are silver, so I'm sure that makes a differrence too.

ALL 85-87 IROC-Zs had the black inserts. The silver was started in 88. If any car has silver prior to 88, the previous owner swapped them out.

All I know is that these were the center caps that were on my car when I bought it in Jan of 87. I was the second owner and I can't say what happened to the car before I had it, but the car only had 5k miles on when I bought it and I'm pretty sure the only thing the guy the guy I bought it from had done to the car was fill it up with gas and change the oil a couple of times.

I certainly don't claim to be an expert here. Just trying to help the guy out.

Re: Iroc center caps

I can help settle the black vs. silver on the 85-87 cars. There were all black, but if the black plastic fell off, or was intentionally peeled off, then you are left with silver underneath. Look at spitstickler's picture. That is exactly what they look like after the plastic has fallen off. Notice how it's clearly different than the brand new one 85Iroc-Z has pictured in his post.

Re: Iroc center caps

My 89 IROC vert had the black center caps on it. I guess it was swapped before I purchased it. However I think the black looks better than the silver.

Re: Iroc center caps

Now i'm confused. I have the 89 iroc 16" whell, which were optional because the 15 was standard. I thought there were 2 different size caps made in silver, 1 for 15 and the other for 16.

I need a siver set for the 16" Where can I find these, Does anyone have a nice set they would sell?

Re: Iroc center caps

Try a GM dealership parts counter. Get ready to spend a bit, they aren't cheap.

I got a set on Ebay, repros, about $50. Look as original except the back side has no GM markings. I think, pretty sure, they fit both size wheels.

Re: Iroc center caps

The standard 15" 5 spoke wheels were the same as the '82-'86 Z28(optional some years standard others '88 up RS).The only difference being, when used on the Z28/IROC,the caps are black. The wheel caps between the 15" and 16" are completly different.

I think we're getting confused here.
Early years IROC wheels, black snap in center:

The general Z28 and 15" wheel used on several models with cup shaped center:

The 16" late IROC wheel with snap in silver center:

And the similiar wheel in 15 inch with snap in silver center:

I bought just one (a silver one) from a dealership about 7 years ago for $60.00CDN!!!! Crazy price but I only noticed it missing a day before a car show and had to have it. Better deals are to be found in the aftermarket.

Re: Iroc center caps

Even with the conversion rate, it sounds like you got screwed. They shouldn't be that expensive unless the dealership is tacking on a rediculous mark up.
