Formula Decal Placement

Hi all,

I have a 1989 Formula 350. When I bought the car it had no decals. I've just received a full set to re-badge it but there aren't any position/location instructions with them. I'm sure I've seen the coordinates in the forum here before but now I really need them I'll be buggered if I can find them. Can anybody either give me the dimensions or a link to somewhere that has them?

Many thanks.

Re: Formula Decal Placement

i dunno if there was an exact placement for the doors but these are the measurements from my car..............

nose bird-2 1/4 from the point f the nose
small "formula" logo on the front is 2 in from the corner on the dr side.
sail panel birdsare 1½ in from the quarter/sail panel line.
large "formula" door decal is 5 in from the lower body line and about 1 in from the fender/door gap.
the rear small formula logo is on the rear bumper roughly 5 in from the corner on the pass side.
as for the hood logo, i had nothing to get measurements from.

Re: Formula Decal Placement

Look at as many photos as you can get your hands on, and then consider what you think looks best, and eyeball them as best you can. There may be measurements somewhere out there, but in reality when the cars were built there was likely a large variance due to human error.

Re: Formula Decal Placement

Here is a pic of my all original Formula 350, its never been repainted, the decals are original.

The Yellow car is my 87, personally I prefer where I placed them on that car.

Interestingly there is no "precise" location for the decals. When you purchase decals for your car, GM originals at least. The backing is larger than the decal itself and it gives alignment marks to aid in the locating on the car.

Unfortunately they do not give the up and down, only fore and aft locations. The same is true for the Hood scoop decals for the 5.0 cars, they have extra backing to aid in locating them. As for the sail panel and nose birds, its up to you, I took some GOOD masking tape (3M Blue or Green painters tape) and moved them around until I got the place I liked the best. then I applied them, measured them and transferred it to the other side.

If you look at the 1991 or 1992 GTA pictures in the Pontiac brochure there are actually 2 different locations for the nose and sail panel birds, its not just slightly its drastic. Likewise it will ring true for the Formula, there is no "Exact location".

Re: Formula Decal Placement

I refitted my decals on my 91 Formula. I did it by looking at pictures in books and on the internet. Can someone please confirm that in 91 the rear "Formula" bumper decal isn't required. I think i read it somewhere but now can't find it and don't want to put it on if it's not supposed to be there.

TIA

The front one isn't there on a 91, the rear one is however.

Re: Formula Decal Placement

In that picture, yes it was the original spoiler, that winter it split on the inside, no warning.

As for decals I /think/ GM still offers them but there are some good places to get them.

Re: Formula Decal Placement

The autografics guy used to sell on ebay all the time. They're WAY off... They're not officially licensed, and they aren't nearly as high quality. They're just vinyl and not high quality vinyl at that. The small birds are about 25% too large, the fonts aren't correct, the colors aren't correct, etc. They're really bad, even at 20 feet they're obviously wrong.

I went through Phoenix Graphics when I replaced the decals on my Formula, and they're identical to the originals.

Really? Well . . . Stones throw away . . . means close by. The distance an average person can throw a stone.

http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/gm.htm#formula decals not only come factory spec perfect, but they are also laid on pre-stencilled backing. No measuring needed, just follow the line-up markings.

I bought my decals from Eastwood http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...emType=PRODUCT - their shipping to the UK was first class

I'd have to agree, your yellow car's decals look better and the red one looks too high. My car's decals matches your yellow one's placement. I saw a Formula on ebay that was repainted and the decals were applied even higher than your red car's placement and looked bad.
