I was looking through my 85 Camaro brochure and under the features and options was "Heavy-Duty Cooling". What is different if you got heavy duty cooling?

Re: Heavy-Duty Cooling
I think the difference is 2 fans instead of one on the radiator.

Re: Heavy-Duty Cooling
RPO-VO8 heavy duty cooling. On early cars,'82-'84 non electric,it came with a heavy duty radiator,7 blade fan instead of the 3 or 5 blade and a different thermal fan clutch.Even the electric fan equipped cars probably came with a heavy duty radiator. This may have been standard with the L69 and LB9 equipped cars for '85.And later the oil cooler was added but I believe that was in a different RPO.

Re: Heavy-Duty Cooling
As usual coolram comes through. I was always wondering why my mechanical fan has 7 blades on it!!! Eventualy I will have to replace my fan clutch, I wonder how much more the part is... I don't have an oil cooler, So I am under the assumption that it was available under another option just as previously mentioned.

Cheers!!

Re: Heavy-Duty Cooling
I can tell you a little about this topic. My 84 trans am purchased new had this option. What you got was a plastic tank radiator with a staggered 3 row core made out of aluminum instead of the single row aluminum core.
I can't say of a fan difference because my car had the H.O motor with an electric cooling fan. However my heavy duty cooling option did not have anything to do with an oil cooler. It also was not a standard thing to the H.O motor it was listed on my window sticker as a seperate option.

Re: Heavy-Duty Cooling
I appreciate the compliment klause but I still have a lot to learn.Jproz you mean you purchased your '84 T/A new(lucky lucky)?I didn't know the aluminum core/plastic tank radiators came out as early as '84.I had thought(which can be dangerous)it was later like in '87-'88.My '83 Z28 has a copper core/tank 3 core. And leave it to GM to make something like HD cooling an option on a performance model. The oil cooler(RPO-KC4)became an option in '87 under certain conditions. Also possibly since it was also part of RPO-B2L.

Yep bought the car brand new from a dealership in minnesota. all options except for the trunk cover thing and the locking floor cover. It was built in van nuys. sticker price was 17k and change. Had the car till last year and it was just becoming a nightmare to keep road worthy ..... dead at 262k miles
