Sorry that I can't help with the RPO. What, by the way, is a 1C5 IROC?

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

The 1C5 rpo code was the California Promotional Package on dealer invoices for an IROC that GM produced only for California dealerships to sell. You couldn't directly order one with the options you wanted as you could on other models. It came deleted of all striping, Iroc logos, and TPI logos which you couldn't delete until the 1988 models as a DX3 rpo code. It had no hood louvers, or rear spoiler, items which you've never been able to delete on an IROC. It did have all the IROC ground effects, 16" Aluminum wheels, (LB9) TPI 215 hp engine, came only with a 700 R4 transmission, fog lights, all the IROC suspension parts and 3.42 rear gears which I think weren't available in 1985 on the standard Z28. It was known as the wolf in sheep's clothing since it looked like a stock camaro, yet had all the IROC options. It is a very rare model that came in only 2 colors, red and black. I've read that 502 were produced with a variety of options. That is why I'd like to find out what the rpo Z5V might be. I've only seen 2 other 1C5 IROC Z28. One car is featured on camarosource.ca. and that is the only site that has the 1C5 rpo listed as being a real GM option of all the rpo sites I've looked at on line. I've also put a picture of my car's SPID code on that web site. That web site is also trying to find out what the rpo Z5V might be. In the past an rpo with a Z, then a number, then another letter were performance packages, deletion packages, and GM specialty built cars such as, taxi, police, military, and what else? My "California" IROC as they are called is red in color, with original paint, a black deluxe interior, and T-tops. It is the only completely original 1C5 I know of to date. It is also in mint, excellent condition. I have the car's dealer invoice, window sticker, and history. I'd like to talk to those that have seen other "California" IROC Z28s. If you know of any magazine articles or books on the "California" IROCZ would you please post the information. I'll post pictures soon.

I also have no useful info, but could you please post some pics? I've seen pics of the black one, IIRC the owner has no plans of keeping it stock.

Looks very nice Do you know if those body side moldings are dealer installed? The look just like the riveted on type that were installed on my '85.

Nice car. Im sure that other RPO is attached to the 1C5 RPO. Maybe that signifies one of the specific 'delete' items. As another Iroc could also have that specific delete and not nessecarily be a 1C5.

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

In regards to the body side moldings, I think that they are the RPO code B9K as listed on the SPID on this car, instead of the RPO B84 body side moldings found on other models in 1985. If the RPO code B9K is something different let me know. Thanks

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

Does anyone have an item on a 1985 IROC Z that is listed as a Z5V on their SPID codes. Maybe its listed on all of them for one reason or another? I've also got a 1988 IROC Z Convertible and a 1989 IROC Z Convertible and the Z5V aren't on those.

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

The only "Z" code listed on my '85 iroc is Z28. My car does have the B9K, but I didn't know what it was for, along with a few others. According to the guy I bought the car from (bought in '88, second owner) the body side moldings were installed by the dealer when the car was repainted in the early '90's. I took that as meaning the car had no moldings when new. If your info is correct, the dealer must have simply replaced what was already there to begin with.

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

I'ts interesting you mention that it was replaced when you repainted the car because the RPO Code site that I found RPO B9K at has this RPO B9K listed as "reapply" to rr doors, body side moldings, it must be a different body side molding than the B84 that sticks on with adhesive tape. It is also listed as a rear door molding and we all know they didn't make a 4-door camaro. It would have to be off of a large 4-door if thats the case, and it was substituted on the camaro.? I think it was used late in the model year? I'll find the site that I found it listed on and post it. It had many RPO Codes that I couldn't find on many other sites. I think it was on a Buick RPO site. I've rarely seen that style of body side molding on camaros, but have seen tham on larger GM models. Maybe GM ran out and used this style factory side molding from one of their other models on a few camaros?

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

I took my moldings off because they were broken and causing the car to rust. They looked just like the ones on your car... anyway, when I removed them they looked like a universal cut-to-fit type that had separate formed ends. Later that week at work there was a late '80's lincoln that also had the same moldings but they were chrome with black inserts, rather than black/black. I suppose they could have been factory on that lincoln too, as I remember seeing another lincoln that had the same auto-dimming rear view mirror as my two '86 IROCs. I guess it's hard to say what GM's reasoning was for it's parts usage.

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

Still haven't found out what the RPO Z5V after the RPO Z28 on the spid of my 1985 1C5 "California" IROC-Z28 . I did notice that the RPO for the Callaway twin turbo orders on corvettes is RPO Z5G as an identification number for Callaway Corvettes. I wonder if the RPO Z5V could be the actual I.D.number that General Motors gave to the 1985 1C5 "California" IROC-Z28?

Did your car come with some type of delux interior? I have RPO Z06 which in 1984 mean't "Delux interior Trim."

Thats a very nice California IROC. I have an 1985 IROC and noticed your spring codes are different, I wonder if it's because you have t-tops? what month was your car made, I think it's odd that it doesn't have posi with the G92 performance axle.

Are you able to contact any other 1C5 owners? I thought one of the owners had a website for their car.

My '85 also has disc with no posi installed.

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

I looked at your rpo codes and you have the GU6 on your car which is the same as the G92 or a 3.42 ratio in 1985. The Z28 came with 3.23 gears and the IROC came with the 3.42 ratio you didn't get a choice in 1985. You could choose to order G80 on either one to get the posi, which yours does have according to your RPO pictured. My car was made in May of 1985 and shipped to the dealership on May 20, 1985 according to the factory invoice I have. I think your right about the springs being different on the car because of the T-top's extra weight.

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

I've been able to look at and get a copy of Adam Jones California IROC-Z. It is interesting that all of the options are identical on it's SPID as mine. The RPO (Z5V) was also there after the RPO (Z28). I also noticed from the vin # that mine was made 91 units after his. Another person also emailed a SPID for a California IROC-Z that had the RPO (Z5V) on it. This was another red California IROC-Z, but it was the first one I've seen without the RPO (CC1) which was T-Tops. Previously, I thought that only the black California IROC-Zs were hard top coupes like the one that Dave Sauro owns. I read a post by Dave Sauro in the History/Restoration, Important/Useful section, READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/desirable?" He said that his car also has the RPO (Z5V) on his California IROC-Z. So far every California IROC-Z I've seen has the RPO (Z5V).

I agree with you totally! If I ever "build" a third gen Camaro it will be black, no decals, no T-tops, no hood louvers or spoilers, with ground effects, stock polished wheels, and lowered as much as possible. I'd try to copy the look of Dave Sauro's 1C5 California Iroc-Z. It has such a smooth clean look for a third gen Camaro! I said "build" because you'd probably never find another one like it.

hope i don't come across as a hater....but i don't see all of the hopla over this car.
Yes, it's a beautiful camaro....but basically it's an 85 IROC with a base camaro hood and a deleted rear spoiler with no decals.
The rest of the car is run-of-the-mill performance options that were on tons of 85 models.
Sheep in wolfs clothing? It still has all the Z28's lower spoilers with IROC 16" wheels....so it's not exactly hiding.

The hooplah is because it's rare. Everyone has their own opinion about what is beautiful, but a rare car will garner more attention, regardless of who thinks it looks good and who doesn't.

if you read my post more carefully, i stated it is a beautiful car. I'm just pointing out the fact that it's a standard IROC with the base model hood and spoiler delete.

I realize that, and I think most people on this site realize what it is. He's not claiming it's anything spectacular, so why not just let the guy enjoy his ride instead of telling him what it isn't?! I don't want to get into anything on someone else's thread, but come on man, you made your point.

I don't understand, here is a 1985 IROC with 3.08 gears. In 1985 the standard gear ratio for the LB9 A4 is 3.23.https://www.thirdgen.org/1985-chevy-camaro

That's because it's an LG4 car, not LB9. LG4 was the standard engine, probably pretty rare on an IROC.

I ment the statement "the IROC came with the 3.42 ratio you didn't get a choice in 1985." Now that I think of it, didn't the LG4 m5 have the 3.23?

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

Now that I think of it, didn't the LG4 m5 have the 3.23?

Yeah, I think you're right- In fact I think the IROC ratios/options were the same as a regular Z28 in '85.

I meant "the (1C5) IROC came with the 3.42 ratio you didn't get a choice in 1985." Thanks for pointing that out.

GM only built the 1985 1C5 IROC-Zs for delivery to California dealerships (no customer orders). They were equipped with a variety of options from the factory and the dealerships had no choices. They took whatever was sent to them. Only 502 were built in either black or red, and all had LB9 engines, A4 transmissions, J65 disk brakes and non-posi GU6 differentials. Since they were built after April of 1985 they weren't required to have the G80 LS to get the J65 rear disks. This had been mandatory earlier in the year for any model Camaro. Why GM didn't build them with the G80 LS is a mystery to me. I've seen and got copies of three 1C5 California IROC-Zs SPIDs and the running gear combinations are the same on all of them. I also spoke to two other previous owners and they had the GU6 in their 1C5 IROC-Zs. They all have the RPO (Z5V) which nobody has figured out yet. Anything is possible with GM, if anyone comes across one that is different I'd really like to hear from them! Ive been trying to research this model and its hard to find information on them. I haven't been able to locate the magazine articles that I've heard about on the 1C5 California IROC-Z. If anyone knows of articles or information on the 1C5 IROC-Zs let me know. Thanks again.

I wonder......Weren't there only 502 1969 COPO Camaros built?

Could that be the reason only 502 California Camaros were built? Just a history tribute?

This is a fact that I didn't know about with the 1969 COPO Camaros having the same number of cars being built. You raise a very interesting question. Was it intentional, since the California IROCS were also a sleeper car as many COPOs were? Or just a coincidence?

Maybe it was the 602 number that the 502 was making me think of?

"A Special 25th Anniversary 'Collector's Edition' 1992 Chevrolet Camaro was planned, but then dropped. There were to be 602 (same as the number of 1967 Z/28's) produced. Only two prototypes were completed however. The prototype Collector's Edition Camaro started as a white Heritage Edition RS with black stripes and body colored grill. Then the B4C police package was added. It was equipped with the Corvette L98 5.7 aluminum head engine, fitted with siamesed intake runners, and then tubular headers. This brought the horsepower rating up to 270. They were also equipped with a ZF 6-speed and GTA black `lace' 16x8 wheels. Only 1 of the 2 cars were kept by GM and can still be seen at shows."

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

If they would have built those 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition 1992 Camaros for sale to the public wouldn't that have been a fabulous collector car? I'm going to try and find an article on the prototype that GM kept. Great information on a rare car!

Thanks for the link! That is definitely the right car and its a 5 star video! Makes me want to make a clone of that 1992 Heritage Camaro. There are a lot of 3rd gen Camaro bodies in my area without engines or trannys at a cheap price that I could buy as a starter. I've also got a lot the parts that I would need to produce a clone.

I googled the heck out of it and found nothing, except your questions on various boards.

What about ordering the factory invoice? Could it possibly be on there? https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...our-car-8.html

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

I have the dealer invoice, and the RPO code Z5V isn't listed there either. Although I know that every 1C5 California IROC SPID that I've seen has the RPO Z5V listed. So I know it's exclusive to these cars. About the only thing I've never seen is a build sheet on a 1C5, which might have it listed. If anyone happens to have one, I'd appreciate it if they could post it.

I attached copies of my factory invoice, window sticker, and SPID in this thread: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...iroc-copo.html

I have the same question because Our cars are twins. I also have an 85 Iroc California special Red with T-Tops. at first i thought Z5V meant t-tops but then something else stood for it so at that point i gave up.

Re: What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?

The Z5V may indicate the deleted spoiler and the deleted Z28 hood... it would make sense... i guess if your looking at the RPO sheet and saw the Z28 and the Z5V next to it it would be easy to spot...
