History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
It has been a couple of years since I have brought this thread back from page 9 on the forum. After 15 years I am still looking for more of these cars and documentation of the RPO Z5V. calidude was the last to post and he has done a great job at restoring his black California IROC, check out his link. Have a good holiday!
Z5V Mirror Provisions Blue Glass. Being made for CA, it makes sense that the mirrors might be tinted. Do yours appear to be tinted?
The mirrors don't appear to be different than my '87, '88, or '89 cars. The RPO Z5V is only on the 1985 1C5 "California" IROC. I've never seen this RPO on any other IROCs so it is specific for something on the 1985 1C5 IROC.
I finally thought of a person that might have access to the original '85 RPO list and put in an inquiry. I've got my fingers crossed.
Here's the response I got:
"I looked through my files and found a bunch of cool stuff, including a Service Parts booklet from the 90's.
It did not include Z5V specifically but there was a range of "Z_V" RPOs that were all appearance and graphic packages (Z4V = "30th Anniversary Package", for example).
My guess, therefore, would be Z5V was the IROC graphics non-merchandised RPO, which brought in the graphics on the doors and hood [or lack of in this case] as part of the IROC merchandised 1C5 option."
So the Z5V likely does not signify any one specific option. I'm guessing it's like there is often a non-merchandised transmission RPO, along with an RPO that denotes a certain transmission. That's just my guess though, as I've never really got a grasp on the purpose in a non-merchandised RPO. He also gave me a link to this PDF that I think is pretty cool:
Still haven't found anything definitive about the RPO in 16 years of searching. I'm bringing it back from page 5 to see if any new members might have seen or read some new information about it.
Thanks
Still have not found anything documenting the RPO Z5V in 17 years. I bring it back to page 1 at the end of each year in the hopes that someone has found some information. Has anyone seen one of these cars in the past year? I've been keeping a record of all of them that have been located.
Thanks
I'm looking to let my California IROC go and let someone else enjoy, it will be up on Bring-a-Trailer in the coming days for anyone interested in it. Happy to answer questions when the auction starts...
