Van Nuys Plant

Does anyone have any photos of the Van Nuys plant before it was demolished? I went recently in September but from what I understand only a couple of buildings remained of the old facility.

Re: Van Nuys Plant

I took a tour there when I was a Boy Scout, and it was amazing. Virtually all the buildings are still there, it is a Farmer John meat packing plant. Everyone in the area knows where it is, as the main buildings are a full block long, but don't know it was once a GM Plant.

I had a few bad photos of the inside, they looked like they could have been in any auto plant, and they were building "Bandit" era Trans Ams by the BOATLOAD at the time. I have no idea where the photos went, I haven't come across them in 20 years, but there were no external shots.

I wasn't sure as I know it turned into a shopping center now, but from what I thought alot of those buildings looked like they were original.

Re: Van Nuys Plant

I can't be sure what it is now, the last time I drove by was about 3 years ago, and it was still Farmer John meat packing plant, and had a huge mural along the side of the main building. The surrounding neighborhood is now urban, so the land is valuable, thus it's not uncommon for perfectly serviceable buildings to be demolished for new constructions instead of being renovated. Those buildings were about 40 years old, but were VERY well built.
