Re: Diamond Spokes, Black and Glas T-Top

nothing rare about the t-tops or wheels. But a 91 TA with a 305 tbi would be extremely rare...considering they never made a 91 or 92 TA with tbi in the US.Maybe the tbi was used just for export

Regarding the t-tops. It's not unusual to find some are Lexan and others are glass. That's normal. They used both (of coarse not on the same car ). I forget what year the change was made.

yea i have too the firebird lights, you see them on every 305 here in europe. i never seem them on a 350 at car meetings, maybe the owners replaced that who knows.
wich ones are the stock for non-exports for a 91' 305 TBI WS6 in the states?

another weird things are the plastis mirros, i also attached you a picture from the taillights

Re: Diamond Spokes, Black and Glas T-Top

The plastic mirrors you have are typical for US cars sold new in europe to make the cars legal.
A friend of mine that has a Swedish sold Vette C4 -88 has the same mirrors as your Bird,he will change back to the original ones as nothing prevents him from doing that to day as the plastic ones make the car to say the least ugly.
My 89 Iroc that was privately imported by a student returning to Sweden from US early 90s have the factory original mirrors and did not need a change to make it legal.
By the way i have the glass panel roof on my car.

Re: Diamond Spokes, Black and Glas T-Top

The Plastic tops were an option, not sure exactly how it worked out to get them, there is not a listing that I can remember on the dealer order sheets.

The TA & GTA were only available with the LO3 as an Export from 1990 - 1992, not sure about GTA's. And in many cases they did get the Base firebird turn signals for European Compliance. Same goes for the Breakaway mirrors on the car...

Are you sure you have the WS6 option? Check you SPIC label.

The WS6 centre caps mean nothing. Friend has a 91 TA--WS6 caps---F41 suspension

Re: Diamond Spokes, Black and Glas T-Top

Most of the exports got the base-style tail lights, because of the amber turn sections, to comply with standards that required amber turn lights.

Same with the Paddle Mirrors. Rare in the U.S., standard in many countries because of the requirement to fold them after parking, with the narrow streets.

And, the Paddle Mirrors were only available halfway through 87 here, then they went to the standard aero mirrors.

I've thought about finding me some Paddle Mirrors, since I have a 87.

Re: Diamond Spokes, Black and Glas T-Top

For some reason all Trans Am's appear to have the "WS6" center caps at least in 1992, and possibly 1991. The reason is unclear, and personally I would think that it should have been illegal to actually advertise an option on a car when it did not come with an option. THe chance that the centercaps were changed by an owner is possible but unlikely as they all appear to have the caps with WS6...

Re: Diamond Spokes, Black and Glas T-Top

well, i think i have the WS6, i also have the "Performance Suspension" decal in the inside of the car. the car handles much better in the corners then a standart car, maybe because the tires, i never driven/droven, sorry for my english, a WS4 / F41 jet -i hope, well who knows what Suspension i have lol

so how can i check that i have the WS6 without the RPO sticker? the WS6 should looks like maybe not the same like the other Suspension?

Generally, the SPIL decal (Service Parts Identificarion Label) was in the bottom of the center console lid or uder the lid of the rear glove box. Ifit got put somewhere else, the assembly line worker was being lazy. Like ossung it under the carpet.

You could measure your sway bars to see if you have 36mm front, 24mm rear. Would be the quickest way to see if you probably have the WS6 suspension.

IIRC, the springs, if the labels are still there, would be labeled XX?.

Re: Diamond Spokes, Black and Glas T-Top

In mid 1991 they changed the location of the SPID sheet from the Center console to the Rear compartment area. I want to think the sheet was either on the door (more likley) of the rear storage area on the Left or on the Spare tire cover... I can't remember however.

The "Performance Suspension emblem" Personally I think is a waste, since it came on all Formula's, TA's and GTA's, both the base T/A suspension and the WS6 have the emblem on the dash. Like Stephen suggested, measure your sway bars, a 36mm front would indicate a true WS6 and a 34mm would be the F41...

Note: all GTA's and Formulas have the WS6 suspension standard.

Actually since you have a 1991 you might be able to go to a Pontiac dealer and have them print you a RPO list...

Re: Diamond Spokes, Black and Glas T-Top

Is that pic 90 degrees from how it really is? I bet it is. Looks like the shock above your ruler in the pic.

If so, what your ruler is on is the end link & the bar below your ruler (in the pic) would be the sway bar.

Re: Diamond Spokes, Black and Glas T-Top

You're measuring the wrong spot. You need to measure the bar those parts attach to, not the bolts, the rubber bushings, the washers, the spacer... the bar, where its round about 6" (15cm+/-) to the left in the last pic, or 3-4" (10cm +/-)to the camera in the first pic. I'm attaching a couple pictures, on the front of the car the picture doesnt go far enough to the left, but in that direction is where you need to measure it.

Its easier to use a crescent/adjustable wrench adjusted to the size of the bar, and measure the width of that.

Re: Diamond Spokes, Black and Glas T-Top

And that's the front, right? I think I see the ball joint mount and edge of the front strut in your pic.

WS6 Suspension got 36 hollow bars front, 24mm solid bars rear.

No he didn't....The red lines represent the dismeter of the sway bar. Follow them straight left & you'll see they line up with the sway bar, same as if a cresent wrench was used.

So yes, that's a 36 mm front bar.

Thats impossible to tell from that camera angle, the viewpoint isnt perpendicular to the bar nor is the ruler. He measured the distance between the endlink washers. The bar is not a consistent diameter at that location anyway, its already tapered towards the link connection.

Re: Diamond Spokes, Black and Glas T-Top

If it is 36, then its more likely it is a WS6. You need to measure where I put the red mark:

Re: Diamond Spokes, Black and Glas T-Top

ok i messured the diameter and then i divided it with 2 = radius and then i divied with 3,14 and the whole multiplicated with 2 and = 3.69

11.5 : 2 : 3.14 * 2 = 3.66 blbla

so yes, it looks like that i have a WS6, very nice.

thanks for help guys
