I own Two
My guess is less than 1000, probably in the neighborhood of 300 to 800
If you ever found a number for 1987 keep in mind that ONLY the Formula (pontiac side) was available in Yellow, likewise it was also a Formula only color for part of 1988 when the color was dropped for I believe the Metallic Orange color. So I can say with 99% assurance that ALL yellow firebirds in 1987 & 1988 were FORMULA's.
However in 1986 It was a specific model color on the Trans Am possibly 1985 too...
The total number of Formula 350's is around 3,562 out of the 13,164 made in 1987.
There was a total of 11,380 (Ponitac) L98 engines made for Firebirds in 1987. 7,818 (GTA source page)of those went into GTA's or Trans Am's therefore 3,562 Formula 350s would have been made.

Re: production for 87 formula
I have two also.
Thats great, 5 between us three. John is right, from my info books, the Yellow was ONLY available on the FORMULA in '87 & '88. T/A in '85 & '86
I have read somewhere, can't find it since, there were 900 total built, I know that there were only 70 imported for sale to Canada, I got that info for GM Canada..
Glen.
