Gosh dern it. Looks like my build sheet has become one with my car

I'm starting to restore my camaro and I pulled the interior down today to see what the floors looked like top side. I was also praying to find my build sheet as I believe My car may be an IROC car. (Dash says it, and my RPO sheet is missing.) Well sure enough if my build sheet is about 5-6 in wide and 8-10 in long it has been worn away or someone pulled most of it out. By the looks of things I don't think my carpet was ever out. I'm not sure though. I could make out a few words. Norwood, Tires, (I think) probably a few others.

Oh well. I guess I'll never know if my car is an IROC or not.

For the record if what I found is the remains of my build sheet. It was under the carpet on the pasenger side right in front of the rear seat mounting bracket. Sorta glued to the floor it seems.

You may be able to tell by looking closely at the ground effects. If it has been repainted at some point in its life they may have painted the ground effects black also. If you can see silver showing anywhere on the gfx's it is most likely a Z28. If you cant see silver showing anywhere it is most likely a IROC-Z.

my build sheet was just a rust colored piece of paper... its usefulness long ago was worn away. Thankfully I already know my car is worthless, lol. So it was pulled along with everything else that was rotting and bad smelling.

Actually it looks as if on the bottom the skirting on the door it was gold at one time. The skirts themselves don't look like they have been painted but I didn't look too closely at them. Do you think that this could have been an IROC option if they might have been original?

even if my car is an IROC it still isn't worth much other than to me. (Its value might be around 400 scrap metal. That rust colored peice of paper might have been what was holding your floor together.

Did you take all of the carpet out including the cargo area? I found the remains of two build sheets under the carpet of my Trans Am. One was under the drivers seat and the other was under the carpet of the cargo well. Another popular location was the passenger door behind the door panel but I haven't looked there yet for another.

I did not find a build sheet in the door. If there was a build sheet in the trunk, it would have been part of the puddle of rusty watery stew I found in there.

These are the only cars ive heard SO many places for build sheets. It would seem, (honestly) that they could be anywhere. Some of the places ive heard.

1) Almost everywhere under the carpet.
2) Under every seat, attached to the seat.
3) Under Dash pad.
4) Above gas tank.
5) In the sail panel area, where your speakers go. This one was unclear, im not sure if it attached to the cardboard of the sail panel, or just kinda sitting at the bottom in the opneing.

Well the car's value has more to do with giving me a hobby. Its a bit of a mental health exercise more than anything!

And yeah, i don't know how, but the carpet in this car was always wet, even though all the seals were pretty good. I think that hole in the floor let in a ton of moisture.

My carpet or more the pading underneath was wet in the passenger side front foot well. More of an oily substance and smells funny. The heatercore probably isn't any good, but I'm not sure yet. Dash has to come out any how so I'll check it while it is out. I've got some scaley surface rust in strategically placed spots in my floor pan. Nothing through though. At least my screwdriver hasn't found its way through.

I noticed that padding is like a sponge. When my carpet came out, the first thing I did was rip the sponge off and throw it away. I'm trying to save the carpet, but I don't have any intention of keeping that nasty padding. I'm trying the peel n seal route for soundproofing, and I think with 2 layers its actually reasonable padding as well. its also not so prone to stay wet.
