The 305 TBI LO3 was the standard engine in the IROC models. The 305/350 TPI engines were extra cost options.Originally Posted by chevyowner02

The TBI engine was the base model engine for all the 88-89 f-bodies (except the V6 base models). And in 85-87, the LG4 carb was the base engine. TPI was always an optional upgrade until 1990, when the 305 LB9 TPI because the standard engine for IROC's, Z28's, and Trans Ams.
And before someone else mentions it, the 350 L98 was always the standard engine for all 87-92 GTA's. You could downgrade to the 305 LB9 as a cost-saving measure.

I can't see the mislead part. He states it's a "5.0L TBI Engine" and the eigth VIN digit is an E. And as mentioned above, the LO3 was the available as the base engine. All looks copesetic to me. Nice ride. Originally Posted by chevyowner02

That's for sure. I just cruised through all the '87-'92 Camaros on AutoTrader.com and man are they all asking a tidy sum. It's spring and people might be aiming high, but it could also be a sign of things to come.
I had thought most IROC'S where TPI but after I posted this I found the out the base was a TBI. But never the less I havent seen to many TBI IROC'S.

There are a lot of IROC's out there with the standard 305 TBI for one reason money. Some people did not want to pay the following:Originally Posted by chevyowner02

350 TPI-$1045
This on top of other options and people said no thanks.

From 1985 - 1987 the LG4 and in 1988 & 1989 the LO3 was the base engine in the Trans Am and the IROC. Interestingly From 1990 - 1992 the only way you could get an IROC, Z28 or Trans Am in the United states was with a TPI engine. Furthermore what is more interesting is that if you exported a Z28, Trans Am from 1990 - 1992 you could have gotten an LO3...
