91 Formula vert????

I've been seeing this vert bird for sale on Craigslist for over a year:

http://houston.craigslist.org/car/725240278.html

I know this is stupid question, but was there ever such a thing as a 91 or 92 Formula vert? I was under the impression that 90 was the last year of a 3rd gen formy vert. I know that Formulas didn't get the GFX, but this guy is convinced about it being a Formula because he says he ran the VIN and it states it as a Firebird/Formula. I know there is no distinction in the VIN between Formula and Firebird, hell, even my 91 base bird says Formula on the title.

Oh, it's got an LO3 with 15X7 base bird wheels. He says its all original.

Re: 91 Formula vert????

'91 was actually the first year for a -factory- 3rd gen firebird vert. I'd be surprised if it was a formy with the LO3 and 15x7's.

Re: 91 Formula vert????

Formulas come with 16" wheels, either the crosslace or convex ones.
If it doesn't have WS6 parts, then it can't be a Formula. Springs, sway bars, steering box, and 16" wheels comprise the WS6 package, as well a "Performance Suspension" badge on the pass side panel below the dash pouch.

I was actually hoping he'd chime in on this. I just want to know if Formulas were available as verts in 91-92. I seriously doubt they were, but it would be good to get an answer from an authority on the subject.

No authority here, but Formulas were not listed on the Firebird Convertible Car Order Worksheets for 1991 or 1992. Neither were GTAs.

Base Firebirds and Trans Ams were listed as the available models.

Re: 91 Formula vert????

That car is NOT a Formula. Formula's Did NOT have Ground Effects from the factory.

People think that because in most States the Titles list it as being a Firebird/Formula.

I was pretty sure that it wasn't, I was just looking for a little reassurance. I know that Formulas never got factory installed ground effects.

My 91 base Firebird even says Firebird/Formula on the title. I argued for a long time with the guy that I got it from before he finally realized I was right about it not being a Formula and he had it advertised as such.

What was funny is that the seller actually sent me a link to Thirdgen.org to see for myself that there was such a thing as a 91 Formula vert with GFX.

Re: 91 Formula vert????

I think we all have it covered.

1) NO 3rd Gen Formula Vert after 1989...
2) ALL Formulas would have had WS6 which included 16" rims.
3) FORMULA's NEVER EVER EVER came with Ground effects to my knowledge from 1970 thru 2002 when new, even the Verts in 1987, 1988 & 1989 they put the SFC and then a simple strip to cover the Rivets. (Basically identical to the Chevy cav's and Pontiac Sunbirds.
4) It has been discussed before and for some unknown reason many LO3 cars had "Firebird/Formula" on the title, or something similar, and this does NOT indicate a Formula. It simply indicates that the VIN could be used for either car. I am really not sure WHY 91 & 92 Titles have this either, it creates a lot of confusion. Good thing that Formula titles with a 350 did not indicate "Formula/Firehawk" That would have a lot of (well you know) in the ringer...

Re: 91 Formula vert????

I'm resurrecting this thread again. We pretty much all knew that it wasn't a Formula, but now he's listing it as something even more rare.

Can you believe it's only 1 of 50 ever made? You gotta read this:

http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/954468048.html

I wonder why he hasn't been able to sell the car yet? He's been posting it over and over for well over a year now.

1) He may believe what he is selling
2) he may be grossly misguided.
3) He may be looking to rip someone off...

4) All the above.

Re: 91 Formula vert????

i just bought a 91 Firebird, the guy i bought it from said it is a formula, the title does not say so. but the car has ground effects. I know he changed the rear hatch, to the pedisatal mount spoiler. my question really is how do i know for sure if it is a formula or not? It really don't matter becouse its pretty much a race car, but its nice to know. I have to replace the front ground effects becouse the wrecker broke them off. thanks alot
