Re: 1988 iroc-z concept?

it could be done but you'd have a hell of a time fabricating the parts..

Re: 1988 iroc-z concept?

I forget all the specifics but you'd have to make some t-tops that you could paint, fabricate some rear 1/4th panels and incorporate the spoiler that you fabricated or modify your's and attach the spoiler you made.. modify your hatch to work with that setup, fabricate the tail lights.. etc

Re: 1988 iroc-z concept?

I have all of the pics posted from there, and some others of the concept car.

However, the way you presented yourself on this forum already tells me that you'll never finish this project, and probably won't even start it.

Its not that much harder to spell "what" instead of "wut"

Well, when you have a moderator saying what I quoted, sounds pretty much like a very reasonable request...

I'll agree with you Scott.

Re: 1988 iroc-z concept?

That is indeed a hardtop, I was simply assuming the post above I read was correct. I personally think it's a really cool looking car, not too sure about those strips on either side of the hood but the light covers and the tail light panel are really cool.

I would think that a request like this from anyone, moderator or another user, doesn't deserve the response given. Your lack of respect for your co members of TGO could come back and bite you when looking for help. It was a simple request so that reading the thread is easier. I agree, u 2 r not vry nice!!

Re: 1988 iroc-z concept?

I do believe the hatch is functional, it opens like a corvette hatch where only the glass portion opens, the rear decklid is solid. The hardest part would most likely be modifiying the quarter panels to incorporate the spoiler. If you were serious about doing this it would probably be easiest to start with a firebird since it has the correct quarter panels to start with. From there swap a maro front end onto the car. Maybe you could remove the rear decklid from the glass of a production hatch and weld the panel in place than weld some sort of bulkhead in place in the rear for the glass to latch. You may be able to cut the factory glass down and modify it to latch like the concept car if you install a c4 vette style latch on the glass. I'm curious how they handled the fuel door on the concept, notice there is no fuel door on the drivers side quarter panel like on a production camaro. The one piece tail light panel would also be a challenge to fabricate. Aside from that all you would need is ground fx from a 91-92 maro and maybe a modified ta rear bumper cover would work? It looks like you would also have to fabricate the strips on either side of the hood. All in all it most likley COULD be done by someone who has really good fabrication skills and a shop to do it in. Honestly though this sounds more like a pipe dream of a 17 year old kid than anything you will actually take on and accomplish. But who knows maybe you will suprise me, maybe you are a master fabricater with exceptional autobody skills with the money and facilities to accomplish this. Like I said before please post pictures once you begin!

Edit: You would also have to cast the wheels, I totally forgot about that part.

Re: 1988 iroc-z concept?

its a shame that never went into production. i bet one could take the F4o wing that was avalible aftermarket for these cars and modify it to fit and mold it onto the rear of a fbird. i dunno if they even still offer the wing anymore. i do remember growing up as a kid and seeing it in chevy mags.
