I need info on this dash plate...
I have an 87 IROC and my dash plate only says Z28 on it. However I was at a car show and I ofund another IROC with a dash plate that said Z28 IROC-Z on it. I don't know the year of the other car or much about it because the owner wasn't near by to talk to. My question is was that only for certain years or did the previous owner of my car resotre the interior with the wronge dash plate?

Re: I need info on this dash plate...
My car is an 87 IROC and I read somewhere that only 88-90 IROC's had that dash plate.
If all IROC's should have had them I'm wondering if I bought a clone car...

Inside console lid on the SPID sticker/label, 3 letter code B4Z will mean you have yourself an IROC, missing it and you have yourself a Z28. This is all dependent on the fact that the console is original

Re: I need info on this dash plate...
I just checked and it does say B4Z.
So either someone used the wrong dash plate during the resto on my car, only 88-90 IROC's originally came with it to begin with, or someone went through a ton of work to make my car a very convincing clone.

Re: I need info on this dash plate...
Is your car an early or late car from the model year (build date)?
If it is a late 87 built car it could have been built with the dash plate.
It is not uncommon to find the next model year parts on late built cars from the previous model year.

All 85-89 IROC-Zs have the Z28/IROC-Z badge on the dash. Someone probably tried removing the original and broke it. The badge should be easily replaced. The only IROC-Zs to have the B4Z code will be the 85-87 cars. The 88-90 IROC-Zs will only have Z28 as an RPO. All Z28s were IROC-Zs in 88-90.

Try (if you haven't already) posting that question as a new topic in the Transmissions and Drivetrain section.

Sometime post-'87 model year, didn't GM drop the Z-28 moniker and just badge Z-28's as IROC's even though they were not B4Z cars?

I think this answered your question. Or is there something we're missing?

Re: I need info on this dash plate...
I just ordered the correct dash plate and it's on its way. My dash will soon be fully restored to its originally glory.
