How old is my Camaro?
Hi all,
I bought my Camaro about 2 months ago and am a bit confused as to what year is was actually built! It's either a 86 or an 87.....
The sticker on the drivers door sates the manufacturing date as 10/86. It has the 190bhp LB9 as shown by the yellow section of the tacho starting at 4500rpm, which could make it either 86 or 87, but the CHMSL is in the trunk lid and more importantly the VIN number states the model year as "H" which I believe is 87.
Could the car have been built in 86 and then left standing for a few months before being issued a VIN?
Thanks

It is a 1987 model that was built in 10/86. Nothing new about this, new models were often built in prior year . The Vin is at build date. Aditional info it was common US auto practice to have a model year run from Sep1986/july1987 as example and new 1988 models were being bulit in July 87 for introduction in Sept of 87.

Re: How old is my Camaro?
What are you talking about. I'm looking at my Registration right now, and this is what it says.
Make...YR Model...YR 1st Sold....License No
CHEV......1989.........1989............4RDYxxx
Vehicle ID Number
1G1F21Fxxxxxx
.
It has a lot of other info, but you get the idea.
I reread the question and I agree with DJP87Z28.
I first thought all IROC-ZeeUK wanted to know was what model year his car was.

If they built a particular model year in the year it was sold, then they couldn't start building the 2009 models until after January 1st 2009. That would mean you couldn't buy a 2009 model until February or March of 2009.
You'll notice that most car manufactures start selling "next year's model" a few months in advance.. It's 2008 right now, but they will be selling 2009 cars starting this October/November. Those 2009 models will have been built in 2008.
