What kind of Camaro is this?

OK. So my dad had a 1988 Camaro. That's all we know about it. The only thing he ever changed on it was the tires and oil and usual stuff. He kept it almost completely stock and sold it when I was 8 with 153,000 miles on it. I'm going to describe this picture to you guys and all I want to know is the engine that was in it. I'm thinking it might have been an LT or some sort of special model. He swears to me it was an 8 cylinder and I'm really doubting it.

VERY VERY Similar looking to mine. Slight lighter color red. No stripe kit around the bottom. Gold trim around the bottom. The Rims have the Emblem in the center hub cap that reads "Camaro". All the emblems on the car said "Camaro". No IROC-Z, no Z28, no RS. It was a brand new car when he got it. I really hope someone can help me with this.

Thats the best I can do. Most of the pictures he kept of it are old and not really good shots. I have yet to find a good one of the front end.

Thanks guys. =]

He had an 88 "Sports Coupe". The "LT" was only produced in 87 & the 88 was the last year for the Sports Coupe. The "RS" started in CA in 88 - but nationwide in 89.

Re: What kind of Camaro is this?

Actually the RS started in 1987 and then more markets got it in 1988 finally in 1989 it replaced the SC as the base model... Essentially the RS was a Ground effects package... I believe the origination of the Ground effects on the SC was intended to compensate for the Subframe connectors installed on the Verts in 1987, on the SC & LT in 1987 Camaro Verts the SFC was visible, it is almost identical to the SFC you see on the Cav & Sunbird Verts from the 80's w/o GFX.

With all that out of the way... The car he most likely had was a SC, he may have had an RS, but it was unlikely... Did he have the shortie Wing in the back?

THe V6 was standard from 1987 & up. A V8 (LG4 in 1987 & LO3 from 1988 - 1992) was available on the SC and later RS from 1982 - 1992 as an option.

Hope that helps...

Re: What kind of Camaro is this?

Thanks guys for the help.

I can't tell the back either. Most of the pictures he has are from the front and at a low angle. I'll find one and let you guys know.
