Where can I find an original radio for a TTA

The owner of the bar that I go to 4 times a week has a TTA with 38000 original miles and needs an original radio for it.THe story goes is that his son died 6 years ago and the day after he died someone stole his TTA,and a 91 ZR1 vette.3 years after his son died he got a call from the cops saying they found the car.He reclaimed the car and decided not to press charges because he was just happy to get the car back. When he got the car back though the only thing mising was the radio and he want's to find one pretty bad.The car is an 89 t-top with cloth interior.I offered him $20,000 cash for the car and he would'nt take it.I come from a pretty prominent family in my area so he knows the money was there. My dad actually backed the guy on a couple of real estate deals in the past couple of years.Anyway I know I can't buy the car anytime soon because he wants to keep it for as long as he can,but iwant to help him find the right radio for it,but I don't know where to find one.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there anything different about the TTA radio than a 89 GTA one? I have one from a 89 that had steering wheel controls. I even have the steering wheel control pod.

No, there is no difference in those radios. You might want to check whatever radio you get for the "model year" sticker. Somewhere on it there should be a rectangular sticker with a large "9" on it.... that numeral specifies the radio is a 1989 model radio.

You could try M&R electronics:

http://www.mnrelectronics.com/delcasrad.html

I got an AM/FM cassette radio for my 1988 GTA (with steering wheel controls of course) from them. The radio came out of a 1991 Bonneville but is identical in appearance to the factory radio for my '88 GTA. The only difference is that the plug in the back for the steering wheel controls is different, but a quick gtrip to the junkyard to find the pigtail from a '91 Bonneville will fix that.

M&R also gives a one-year warranty on the radio!!

hth.

Same radio as a 1989 GTA, which are pretty common on sites like this and ebay - and can be refinished by a company like United Radio.

Pic of the correct radio from one of my cars

Steve,
Do you have contact info for United Radio?
My cassette won't come out on it's own, so it's time to fix it.

Thanks,

George

Re: Where can I find an original radio for a TTA

I took my factory head unit to the GM dealership and they ship it off to the company that bought ALL of the parts AC Delco had back more than 10 years ago.

For my factory CD player it was like $350 but it came back with a brand new face, buttons, whole nine-yards. It even has MUCH better anti-skip and a newer 3-way laser that now plays CD-R's AND CD-RW's!

Re: Where can I find an original radio for a TTA

92 GTA,
THat would be cool... I bought a really nice Factory CD player for my 89 for $100 that I have considered having upgraded... $350 is really not bad when you consider what a quality new deck costs anyways...

Does your radio play MP3's from the CD-R or CD-RW too??? thats what I would be really interested in.

No mp3's, that would not be possible.

UnitedRadio from the link above quoted me only $195! I wonder if I should trust them...

Interesting information. Do you know where they sent it? (In case my local dealership doesn't know)
