I NEED Info Please!! 1987 Camaro LT

I Am trying to buy what appears to be an 87 LT. He doesnt know what it was, he listed it as an 85, but thats Irrelevant. I have yet to decide my plans for it, its not perfect, but its not BAD either.

Heres What I know:
Its a 1987 Camaro
Has remnants of old LT badging and LT steering wheel.
Red Interior, Roll up Shade, Rear Cargo Cover (Metal Folds Down) Carpeted Plastic Panels, Hard Top, GFX (Maybe not stock?) 3 Berlinetta Wheels.
I Searched the Vin, Doesnt say anything about it being an LT just a coupe(Duh)
Its Fully Optioned, Including optional rear Spoiler (IF LT) Pw, Pl, Etc.
How can I know if its a real LT?

The REAL Predicament:

The person I am going to buy this from Lost the keys. He says It has VATS. He also said it has a FACTORY Alarm system, with remote, Which is lost with the keys. IS this Possible?

IF I buy this, Can I Pull the steering wheel, Pull the ignition cylinder, and free the steering / shifter, just to get it home?

If I decide to keep it, can I ever get the ignition bypassed or fixed?

I Thank everyone greatly and kind of need an answer so I can get this baby home. Thanks again, Anxiously Awaiting replies!

The car does not have vats if it is truly an 87. Did the VIN check state it was an 87? Ground effects and VATS were available in 89 and the base car in 89 was the RS with ground effects. Check the center console for RPO B4E. That's the code for LT.

The LT had deluxe interior (carpeted rear panels) and locking storage as standard. Your best bet to verify the car is by the RPO code listed above.

Thank you SOO Much for the fast reply, It Does have Deluxe Interior, and he SAID it had Anti Theft. Is it possible to have a factory Alarm? I am probably going to grab this up Saturday, and if it doesnt have Vats i will be SOOOOO Relieved. The Vin States its an 87. I don't think it originally had GFX, because the emblems are wrong, and the front nose is like that of a berlinetta. I will look for the RPO next time i look at it. Is it possible to swap the ignition without having the key for the old one?

Thank you so much again!

AFAIK no 3rd gen came with a "Factory Alarm" If they did I have never set it off, NOR did any 3rd Gen come with remote entry... THe closest thing is the VATS which in fact only disabled the car from starting.

HOWEVER GM did offer kits to install Alarm systems and remote entry, they would have been a dealer installed item...

Yes you should be able to swap the ignition... it is much easier with the key, I am not sure about how to do it without the key.

Oh ok. The Car does not run. I Simply need to free the steering wheel and shifter so i can steer it and put it in neutral. I Really don't want to break any original equipment, just need to get the car out of his yard and such. Thank you guys for your help!

With the vin maybe the GM parts guys could still be able to cut you a new key. At 20+ years it may be a stretch, but this is the computer age ... isn't it! The info should still be floating around somewhere.
