help with a camaro

I found a guy who has a f-body camaro in his driveway that looks to have been sitting for a long time (low air in tires, disgustingly dirty) and I don't know what year it is but i do know that it is a grey paint job with red and blue pinstriping and an Indianapolis 500 logo on the side...now here's my question now what year would this be? and how much to offer the guy because it would need a lot of work to get running and driving (tune-up, new gas, a good bath, etc.) and it has a rust spot on the RR quarter next to the backglass looks to be only surface rust

Re: help with a camaro

Well, from what i can find on the web its kinda rare..
THis is what i found about it on the web...but, i cant really tell you how much u should offer the guy. Gotta think about whats wrong with it...wont start, has rust spot. I would only offer him like 1 000 or 2 000 my selft, but i would have to see it in person to really give you a price on what i would pay for it. But, to try to start it, you wanna make sure u check the battery, engine oile and tranny oil...and then try the key and hope she turns over! Good luck with you dicision! .
V8 305, Crossfire Injection, Automatic, This is a very rare car, most Chevrolet Dealers received less then 10 cars in 1982.

Re: help with a camaro

The Camaro Z28 paced the Indianapolis 500 in 1982, and over 6000 replicas were sold through Chevy dealers. The pace car edition featured special two-tone silver/blue paint and special striping, orange pin-striping on 15-inch Z28 wheels, and a silver/blue interior with six-way Lear-Seigler manually-adjustable seating. Engine choices in the pace cars were the same as the regular Z28. However, the car that actually paced the event was equipped with a highly modified all aluminum 5.7 L V8 not offered publicly, although there are rumors that four were actually produced.

Re: help with a camaro

was a manual an option? and i was gonna offer the guy like 750-1000 cause he doesnt know anything about cars cause he is selling his 91 f-150 with 145,000 miles on it and engine troubles for 2500 and this car isn't for sale so i could probably get it cheap and plus he is old and fat so he aint driving it again

http://www.camaropacecars.com/1982/82faqs.htm#Options

This link will tell you most of what you wanna know...and yup looks like it came with different packages...and yes manual...
What options were available?

The better way to ask this question is what options were not available! All normal options available to the 1982 Z/28 could be ordered. Besides the paint scheme and the interior mostly everything else was optional. This is the reason that today you can find all sorts of differently configured pace cars - hardtops, manuals, Crossfire, carbureted, rear wiper .....

Re: help with a camaro

I say offer him $500 and if he says yes take it. Otherwise $750 is a good place to start.

Yeah, grab the damn thing. Offer between $500 - $1,000 tops. Since it isn't running. I got the pricing from the "Standard Catalog of Camaro 1967-2002". Have yourself a nice little piece of Camaro/Indy history That year's race was a helluva race too. . .

And might wanna go check it again, you never mentioned the interior. Everything could be cracked, ripped, torn. . . gutted.

Not a rumor, four were produced, however not for retail. They were the actual pace cars, the ones that were on the track. Then there were 80 "festival cars" ones that went to track officials, the press, dignitaries and one to the winner (Gordon Johncock)The other "Pace Cars" the ones that went to dealers are facimilies.
