Rear hatch glass replacement w/ rear defogger
My glass is good, it is just my defogger that does not work. I wonder if anyone knows how to fix this except to replace the glass w/ a defogger in it?

Most stores (like Autozone ect...) sell a kit from Locktite that has a "paint" that you go over the bad spot to repair it...

Thanks for the quick reply defarris. Have you ever used one of these repair kits or know or heard how well they work. 1 or 2 of my lines work so I know it is getting power.

I have not used them myself but have seen cars with repairs and it seems to work like a charm...

that's strange that only 1 or 2 lines work. Do you know if someone went at it with a scraper trying to remove tint or something?

Re: Rear hatch glass replacement w/ rear defogger
I have a 1986 Z28 (TPI) and my rear defogger needs to be replaced. I have maybe a third of the lines broken/scraped/whatever off. I bought the car used so I have no clue who or how the defogger was damaged but the little repair kit from the store isn't going to be enough. The question I have is..... Would buying replacement defogger strips and scraping the old stuff off work? I am planning on removing what's left of the old strips and putting new ones on top of where the old ones were so my window doesn't look like crap with a hundred lines across it. When the strips are scraped off there is a thin brown line underneath where the strip was. Will placing new defogger strips on the old lines cause any issues?

Those kits are pretty hokey. For a small repair they're probably fine, but if you're working with a hatch that had tint film ripped off, the defroster is usually so destroyed that using the tiny kit will take forever.
I messed with the kit a few years ago, it was a waste of time and money. Maybe if it was a much LARGER quantity and you could tape off the entire grid and spray the entire grid it'd work, but with the supplied brush it'd take forever and only work marginally.
Get a hatch from a junkyard with a good defroster grid.
