Correct location for fog light switch 85 IROC
Hello all,
I picked up an 85 IROC a couple of weeks ago. Its my first Camaro so I dont know a lot of the specifics, but I work on VWs and have owned a bunch of older GM cars (62 Nova, 66 Nova, 77 Malibu, 78 Malibu) I also had 94 and 04 Mustang GTs
When I first got the car I thought it had no fog light switch. The panel on the dash below the headlight switch is blank and the fog lights came on with the headlights. I picked up a new used panel and switch thinking that some one had been goofing with the wiring. But when I took a closer look I found the factory fog light switch mounted to the dash below the extension the headlight switch is in. I cant imagine thats where it supposed to be, casue I drove the car for a week and never even saw the switch from the drivers seat. So, Im just looking for some clarification.
It also has an aftermarket 160 MPH speedo, curious who made it!

It should be on the panel below the headlight switch.

It's in the correct position for the 85. The 86 and later had it mounted in the same panel as the headlight switch.

Here's a pick of mine in my '89. It's located in the panel directly below the headlight switch (stock location) . . .
The '85 was different? Then again, my ride is also a vert which never had the rear washer switch. I'd like to see a pic of how it was set-up in an '85 vs newer models and also if it was different for ride with or without the washer switch.

Just some info from Jim85IROC that I thought was interesting:
"... in 85, in addition to many other one-year-only peculiarities, the fog lights would come on ONLY with the low beams. With just your parking lamps on, the fog lights will not come on."
Just for the sake of more info, in later models, the switch is illuminated (the one in the following pic--my 85--appears to be illuminated, but it's not).

Re: Correct location for fog light switch 85 IROC
My 85 has it sort of on the underside of the dash. I had a short in my wiring so I put in a toggle switch. I probobly should have left it but what can I do. I hate wiring gremlins. If u search there is some posts on it.

Re: Correct location for fog light switch 85 IROC
The more I thought about it, it has to be in the same spot as it was new. I cant imagine someone moving the factory switch to the lower panel, then gettnig a headlight switch panel with the blank. I had the car apart and replaced the headlight switch and pigtail. The wiring for the switch was not molested in any way to get it to mount in that spot. So, I left it the way it is. Maybe I will keep an eye out for other 85s and see where their switch is mounted.

Re: Correct location for fog light switch 85 IROC
Well folks, this proves that the fog light switch in my 85 IS in the correct position, not directly under the headlight switch but UNDER the entire thing!
The video of the 85 IROC found with 4 miles on it has its switch exactly where mine is! 4:34 into the video!
